I'm getting 3-5 daily. I supply eggs to 2 other families, GS and MIL. I've been able to share a few. Definitely doesn't always happen like that so I feel blessed. I hope my Cream Legbars kick in soon.
I think one of my 8 month old Marans pullet is going broody.

She was doing the cluck, cluck, cluck and raised her hackles at the other hens yesterday. Last night she was in the nest box at closing time. Moved her to the roost. She ruffled all up and made a fuss. I think she said an ugly word. I said, "No, no, let's not do this in January." I always hate to discourage a broody.

A couple months ago I was pulling them out of the nest box and placing them on the roost, but waiting until after it got dark. Not as much scolding that way.

I have other hens laying. They will lay in the box with her. In the past I've had 3-4 hens trying to all get in the same box at the same time. I ended up with broken eggs. Makes a mess.

Some will brood on nothing, empty nest or the ground. They can loose a lot of weight and get sick before they realize there will be no chicks.

So when they go broody if I'm not going to let them sit, I try to break them right away. Bad as I hate to.

She tried to steal an egg under her wing today. She moved it up a foot over the lip of the nest box. Sneaky thing!

Oh she's in a mood! It's funny when they have a bunch of eggs crammed up under their wing. I had a broody I wanted to break, I lifted her off the nest to the floor and she had eggs falling out from her wings, I think she had 5-6, can't remember. She was ticked off!

I love egg pictures! It's a sign of success. Long road to get these pretty's. I may post one soon too if you don't mind in your thread.
