Fuzzy-Butt Update PIC HEAVY

Yes it seems mother knows best. It is day 3 and our little one and momma are just great. We have seen the baby eat and to our pleasant surprise this morning, baby #2 has arrived. It is still pretty wet so I will wait until later to try and get a photo. I did, however, get a couple of baby #1 with momma. I am going to try to document the progression from newly hatched to adult. Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement!!!

Ok I finally got some pics of the second baby and it looks just like the other, just a little more wobbly.

Mother hen had gotten up for a drink and some crumble so I had the opportunity to take a couple pics and a video clip of her calling to the babies to eat and drink!! She is a great momma. The video isn't great but the sounds sure are cute. One baby is under her legs and the other is near her face.

That is just adorable!!! I love those sounds! Those are some pretty babies!!!
It is going to be exciting to see how they feather out!!

I sat and watched mine for a while today and it is so cute how they follow momma all around and do as she does. They peck at her eyes all the time, she is very tolerant! I went in to show my neighbor and I only found 3 under her! I panicked! I was looking all around and finally checked under another hen that was sitting on the nest laying and there she was under another hen!!! I was so relieved!

Thanks Bec...I have been checking on them every hour or so and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. I am glad your flock is doing good too. They are very cute babies. Oh, and I am glad there was another warm momma around to help out. I still have mine isolated until the last egg hatches then I will let her introduce them into the flock. Mr. Fancy Pants stops in his tracks when he hears them peeping loudly. My husband has started building a bator so we can try our hand at incubating eggs from our other girls that, so far, have not been broody. They are BO's and Jersey Giants. The roo is a JG and I am curious what a JG and BO cross will look like!

Well we have a sad and happy update. Baby 3 was trying to finish hatching yesterday and we had to leave to run an errand. When we got home the chick was half out of the shell but was not near the mother so we checked on it and it had died. Poor little eggbert.

We also decided not to keep the momma confined anymore but were afraid the chicks would get too cold and brought them in the house. They are doing good, they even have a surrogate mother/doll. I decided to see how they compared to the size of my full grown parrotlet, well they will be bigger than her in just a few days!!

Our babies are growing up so fast. They have wing feathers and one has the tiny start of a tail and they both have the start of puffy cheeks. Their momma has gone broody again and we gave her a few eggs. She also has food and water very nearby. Just thought I would share.
