Hey everyone,
I was wondering if maybe we should start a new "What did you do in the garden today" thread? Since it's a new year - maybe we should also have a new thread for this year. Gardening time is coming!!!
What do you all think? I thought it would be easier for newer members/gardeners to get all kinds of info with a new thread!
It's okay if no one likes this idea. :)

I'm joining. In 2019 due to weather and an extremely short growing season my vegetable garden was extremely minimal and I just focused on my pollinator/flower beds. In 2020 I'm expecting some life and work changes and hope to have more time to focus on my garden again because I was just starting to figure out what works in my environment. Now I just have to make plans and wait for feet of snow to melt!

Thanks to all who decided to join the 2020 gardening thread! :) Hopefully more will join and it will become a huge discussion thread! :D The title was changed because its kind of confusing two have to threads about the same thing with almost the same title.

So this year I'm hoping for a BIG garden. The one last year was pretty good (in size), but it wasn't a great year for growing. Most of my plants didn't produce very well. :hmm I'm really hoping to do more this year! Part of the reason I started this thread was because I wanted to learn from others and share my experience. I really want to learn how to can and grow a really good garden. This year I will be the main person at my house tending the garden. I will need some help though. ;)

I also have a compost pile. How many of you have one?

I have a pallet compost area with two sections. I fill one, then flip into the other so the less broken down stuff is on the bottom. Then I fill the other. Eventually I move most of the first pile on top of the second, and use what I can. Then I start over. I have a hay floor in my chicken coop, which I rake straight into the compost. It breaks down very quickly here, but of course it's very hot.

I let my chickens dig around in the pile so I have to rake it back periodically, but I think it's worth the mess since they love it so much!

I think gardening in Texas is a whole different animal. I have eggplants and tomatoes outside (in containers) still right now! I've only had to bring them in a handful of times this year. On the other hand, I have a really hard time keeping my greens from bolting, even in the winter.
