Back in the 80's, I was at a Halloween party and the home owner gave me some dried chillies he had grown. Being we all had been imbibing, we didn't think about a bag....he just took them off the string he had dried them on and I stuck them in my coat pocket. Of course I forgot about them and didn't wear that coat again until spring. Had no idea what was in my pocket until I rubbed my eye. 😱 :barnie:he

I don't know about leaving potatoes in the ground, I think here in the clay soil they would rot as the ground thaws. I do plant garlic in the fall and cover it with a lot of hay.

The chef, however, did give the caveat "Don't rub your eyes. And for God's sake, don't get near anybody you love." ;)
Good advice! Perhaps you would also like to rub stinging nettle on your arthritic hands. I REALLY don't like the feeling of those things.

I have clay, but I have been adding compost for 8 years in this particular bed.
I harvest garlic in July and usually plant October. Hard neck does the best and sometimes the soft neck, but sn is smaller every year

I don't know about potatoes, but I planted my garlic in october.
I would hate to go through the work of fall planting potatoes just to have them rot.
there is plenty of time if you plant them in spring..
today is supposed to be really nice outside here. I am going to see how far I can walk down the driveway.. I need to walk a lot more..
I might plane a few oak boards .

Usually it's too wet to work the ground in the spring most of the time.... lucked out that the ground was ready this week and I had potatoes from last year to plant. Onions don't ship until end of the month. Usually that's too early.
I'm planting four 25 ft rows of potatoes and 350 onions. Usually I can plant 2 rows, same bed, in an hour...had to stop halfway through and rest an hour, before I could finish those 2 rows of potatoes. I ordered some new potatoes that aren't shipping until middle of April.

What ever I caught before Thanksgiving is still sapping my energy.

Wow, where do these mornings go ? seems like they fly right past with that one hour missing.
I overdid the walking. Hips are tender. going to skip walking today. Anyway, it snowed last night and the driveway is all wet and sloppy.
One more PT session, tomorrow. Then I am done with that.
Annie found my really old beer recipe book. I think I will browse through it .
I need a recipe for 3 gallon batch of amber ..
