Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

i wish i could let my chicken roam during the day but we have foxes and coons and maybe coyotes, husband did dispose of one coon a couple of weeks ago, out during the day even, maybe cause he had had a run in with a skunk, needless to say, i'm afraid to let them loose, lost all but two last winter while gd was babysitting them for us,trying to rebuilt the flock
We have donkeys that keep most critters at bay.

I had a friend in FL tell me her donkeys were better watch dogs than her dogs...those donkeys would alert them to intruders (2-legged or 4 legged).

would love to have one or two but have no one to take care of them when we're not here in the winter, i have to pay the gd to take care of my chickens, big bucks and shes not a chicken person, has no idea how to protect them or doesn't care, haven't been able to find anyone else

got my first picking of yellow beans this morning, now have to figure out how i want to cook them, i prefer green but have yellow right now. been getting a few tomato's here and there, but not enough to satisfy me, love tomato's, getting alot of cucumbers too, okra is coming on, being a southern girl thats another veggie i love cooked in a pot of southern peas, come to think of it, not too many foods i don't like except sushi, never tried it but i'm not going to eat raw fish or insects

You can use one of your flower planters to grow a few things next year. I picked a 5 1/2 lb. head of cabbage yesterday along with 3 huge bell peppers and at least a half dozen nice big ripe slicing tomatoes. I also had enough gooseberries to bake a pie.
