Gazillion flies!

Are they the ones that smell like a rotting corpse? I tried one of those and I couldn't stand it - I about died from the smell!

We have flies also, Alpacas have to be sprayed (and we don't have the barn done, so we try to corral them in the pasture . . .believe me, its like something out of a three stooges movie .. .and I also hung one of those gallon jugs with the stinky stuff in it, but it doesn't seem to do the trick . . .my husband thinks I have it too far away, and that could be true. They seem to be really bad biting ones this year . . .mosquitoes are terrible too, and that is scary as there was a batch tested about 40 miles from where I live that tested positive for the West Nile. Wonderful, something else to watch out for!!!

Thanks! It's not really wet here - we had a shower the other night but they were here before the rain came. Ugh! I hope they don't stay all summer!

They may stay. Once they find an area that they like, they tend to hang around a while.

Flies are such a neusence!! LOL. Some years we get barely any and some years we get a bunch.Grrr

Have you sprinkled the run with the DE? I use Stall Dry since I don't have a DE dealer near me and I hardly have any flies. Now I just need to figure out how to keep them off my horses!!

These are excellent- contain dichlorovos. Along with dry bedding, food-grade DE and Stable Boy powder, I use these in barn/coop, and have for 22 years.

Avoid hanging over food/water and keep away from birds, you can encase in hardware cloth if necessary.

Ergo, no flies or gnats

Clean, brand new coop, DE, Stall-Dry, fly strips...nothing is working this year.

I am glad I noticed this posting because I thought it was just me and not keeping my coop clean enough!

It has been so wet here I have hung several fly traps. What is DE?

Thanks

yeah what does DE stand for? cuz my parents wanna get rid of my chickens cause all the flies and i've been looking or a way to get rid of most of them

They do work great but I think they attracted some neighborhood flies because the day after I hung it up I had twice as many as the day before. Fortunately, they all seem to be heading toward the bag, so with some luck maybe I can capture all the neighborhood flies!

My problem now is I have some inside the house and I can't seem to get rid of them. I'd rather not use the bags because they stink! Any ideas?
