Geese eggs

Yes, just the one, sorry I meant to say "baby" above.

She will not let me near the eggs or her. Daddy goose will hardly let me in the yard. I went out this morning and worked on a barrier between the dog yard and where mama goose is, but didn't have a lot of time before work. Will work on it tonight some more and hope for some to hatch. I know that Saturday will be day 34 or 35 of incubation, so I expect if they don't hatch by then, they are not going to.

I am debating checking around to see if anyone has some baby ducks or geese locally that I can buy and let her "adopt" them if none of her remaining eggs hatch.
My experience was by no means a textbook example but when mine were sitting she would get off the nest a couple of time a day to eat and bathe. Often times in the afternoon she would go out to the field and graze a bit. So, being off the nest is not uncommon. Also, her and the gander being protective is very normal. I was hardly able to go in and feed them and put clean water for them until the babies hatched. Ours hatched in about 31 days total so everything may still be o.k.

Did yours get up even after they began hatching? (What I would refer to as "lockdown" for my chicken eggs.)

I guess that is what concerns me.

Another thing that I think probably helped with my hatching was right at the time hatching should begin we had massive rain storms which shot the humidity level up to between 70 and 80 percent. I dont know if there would be any way to increase humidity with your sitting goose or not but it might help. Ours would come out, splash about a bit in one of the pools and then go back in and sit on the eggs while she was still pretty wet

Nothing still. She is sitting on them and still calling for the lost baby. Ugh. Not sure what to do.

I called around to all the local places I could think of and no one has baby ducks or geese (I was thinking I could buy a few and give them to her.) there was one place that had 3 week old Muscovy ducks, but I can't imagine that working.

She seems pretty intent on staying on these eggs. I think today or tomorrow is day 35 that she's been sitting.

Hopefully something will happen soon. Goose eggs take from 28-35 days give or take a couple of days so something may happen yet. Try to work backward on a calendar to get as close an estimate of the number of days as you can. There is nothing you can do about the lost gosling and her mourning, that will eventually pass. Until then lets hope she has not lost her entire clutch.

I'm certain that yesterday was at the latest 35 days. She is still sitting, but nothing seems to be happening. It has been 6 days since the first gosling hatched, and 4 days since it died. The mama goose is still sitting, crying out. What to do, what to do???

That is my concern too - I am the deep South and it is hot and supposed to be getting hotter.

Ideas on how to get her off the eggs so I can grab one???? I have to crawl under the deck to get to them and she and the gander are not letting me in the backyard even.
