At least a few of the hatcheries have a minimum order of 2 waterfowl, so if you only want a few you could still go through them if you can't find any locally.

Very broody, especially if you're getting them from a private breeder, I'm getting mine from Mypetchickens, An online hatchery in Ohio so I don't expect mine to go broody all the time.. But they most likely will

Not sure that it makes a big difference, but the waterfowl purchased from MPC are not coming from Ohio, but rather, CA- I believe Metzer Farms. I have a waterfowl order coming this week and noticed it was shipped from Chualar, CA. I'm a bit nervous, because it doesn't seem like it was shipped Express although alot was paid for shipping ($47) for possibly only 5 birds. Why do I say possibly? Because I added 2 birds to the order a week before it was scheduled to go out, and when I received notification my order had shipped, it only included the original order of 5. Hopefully, it's incorrect. Will keep you posted on the outcome, if you want.

I have pilgrims and that's the only goose I have had. It depends which breed strikes your fancy. Pilgrims are the only breed that you can tell which sex they are from the moment of hatch.

Pilgrims are expensive though....

Well, I woke up only to be greeted by this 4-letter word when I let the dog out:



Enough is enough already! Thought we were done with this white stuff! Furthermore; my Goslings and Ducklings were going to arrive a day early, today! Turns out my order was not screwed up, and all fowl arrived healthy, happy, and hungry! The khaki's were a " day-before-TSC purchase, couldn't-wait-any-longer". The picture makes it pretty obvious which is the male vs female Pilgrim geese. They are already snugglers with US! There's also some White Layer Ducklings that are easily holding their own with the 2x's larger khakis that are afraid of their own shadows LOL

That's why I opted for the Pilgrims: auto-sexing, and mild temperament (except during mating season, but still not awful - what I've read).

My Pet Chicken, Metzer, I think Murray McMurray. Ideal also has a minimum price rather than a minimum number, and about 2 geese would probably meet that.
