Gender and breed - 8 weeks old

Like the other posters said, they are Red Sex-links. The mostly white ones are cockerels and the mostly reddish-brown ones are pullets.

If you cross a Red Sex-link with a Red Sex-link, you will not get more Red Sex-links. The sex-linked trait only carries through one generation. However, any chicks that do hatch should be healthy.

If you breed them, you'll get mostly red and white offspring, with some other colors popping up from time to time, thanks to the wonder of recessive genes. You're correct, the sex won't be linked to the color, but otherwise they'll be fine backyard birds.

I've been doing some reading (geez this site is useful !). So any future generations won't be sex-linked, but will they be otherwise healthy chicks?

They won't be sex-linked, but otherwise, they should be healthy birds; probably even good layers (though very likely not as good as their RSL parents).
