This chick is developing in typical cockerel pattern. Bare shoulders, short tail, tall and gangly looking, pink comb, wattles showing at such an early age. I would be very surprised if it were a pullet.I took more pics today. Is the lighting any better? This chick is 5 weeks and 3 days old today.![]()
Yeah Iāll stop showing off all my chickens now but I also have a Mauve Orp that looked like a boy (the wattles showed up early and so I was sure she was a boy!) and I was so sad and sheās definitely a she nowYour Splash is beautiful @kurby22 ! And wow, the comb looked rather prominent in the baby pic and yet it still ended up being a pullet!
And yes, I ordered and paid for Lavender Orpington hatching eggs and now Iām questioning. I canāt help but feel a little annoyed and cheated.I was assured that the Lavender Orpingtons were purebred and did NOT share accommodations with any other breed.
I canāt wait to see your baby in a couple more weeks, they grow so fast between 5 and 8 weeks!Might be a pullet, I dont solely rely on the comb.I really appreciate you guys sending your pics, they are very helpful!
I see what you mean about the color. Mine is quite light, isnāt it? Is that unfavorable for Lavender Orps? I assumed that the color would become more enhanced after all of its feathers came in.
So does the comb on my chick look particularly pink to you guys? Looking at the pics from @Aunt Angus , her chickās comb looks pink but it ended up being a pullet. The size of it looks smaller than the chicks in the pics from @kurby22 though.
Ugh. Waiting to figure out the sex takes soooo loooooong!![]()

I agree that this one needs a few more weeks. Do you know if it is an English or American Orpington? The English Orps are very slow to feather in, males and females. @homeschoolin momma raises these, so I would go with her opinion.Hey @LadiesAndJane , would you mind taking a look at this thread and giving me your opinion please?![]()

I'm skeptical it's not lavender rather splash or maybe even white. Really doesn't look lavender to me. Thoughts? @Overo MareI took more pics today. Is the lighting any better? This chick is 5 weeks and 3 days old today.![]()
I honestly think it looks closer to splash.I'm skeptical it's not lavender rather splash or maybe even white. Really doesn't look lavender to me. Thoughts? @Overo Mare
