i talked to a guy who had let his pigs free range
he said the meat was a little on the tough side
so instead he changed to a movable pigpen

Ah, raising pigs. My husband just brought up the thought last week. I can separate my emotions from the chickens, but I am a bit concerned that I would become attached to a pig. Now, don't get me wrong, I will NEVER turn down bacon... but I might start comparing them to my dog [IMG].

AI is done routinely in the Philippines.

The guy that does it charges 1 piglet - pick of the litter - and always female.

The sale price of a piglet is Php2,300. The cost to feed a boar for a year is not much more.

If I have 9 pigs and 2 farrowings per year..................

I am better off raising a new boar every 2 years

I do wish I could find someone to AI goats. Its a shame to invest in a buck when I wont be able to maximise his value. Its not worth it to bring goat semen from the US though.
