Getting tired of rudeness....

...“I’m right no matter what and you’re stupid if you don’t agree” from boomers than from younger people.

I’m a boomer and no matter what, I’m right and you are just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. So there.

(You do know I’m just kidding...that’s another one of Mom’s sayings that would always send the whole family into tears of laughter!! I miss her, but it’s good to pass on the funny moments.)

an explanation to the original poster, and its generational.

Culturally, we are in our second generation where facts don't matter. The first generation was taught that all opinions were valid, without regard for the underlying facts, and the current generation is being taught that motive matters more than anything else. While certainly not true of every member of the most recent generations, its been a theme in teaching and the media. Logic and Rhetoric are hardly taught at all anymore.

Without agreement as to facts, finding agreement as to what conclusions to draw from those facts is increasingly challenging.

and anonymity (on the internet and elsewhere) tends to result in a lowering of social filters. Whether or no there are consequences for one's statements (here, they are few). Add the stresses of the past decade+, and... a general degradation in the quality of discourse and the social lubricant of mutual respect is evident everywhere.

**my opinion only**
X2! (Some) People suck, and not in a good way... I’m just glad that this is (most of the time anyway) a safe haven.

I try as well. I fail about 99% of the time. I think people would be better off just ignoring my chicken crap personality
sorry for that, self esteem issues showing through and needed a bit of an outlet.
No apology necessary. I think you’re very fair in every post I’ve read anyway.
While I have also experienced plenty of rudeness on here it is easy to forget that in text there is no tone therefore there is no clear intention. It is easy to come across as blunt (guilty here) and harsh and rude. Just a thought. Emoji's go a long way
It’s very easy to forget this point.
I also find that my own mood affects how I take things. I have had to make it a point to either simply not respond or reread whatever upset me at a later time.
When all else fails pet a cat, or whatever. :)

I find the majority of people on BYC to be incredibly helpful and have genuinely good intentions. People post here looking for help and asking questions, hoping to get the answers they seek. While I agree difficult to convey tone in a text, there is no excuse for downright rudeness. One of the reasons I don’t have Facebook and never will! I come to this forum as a reprieve from the every day. Thank you @Sammi_0411 for bringing this up as a reminder to all of us as to why we are here and what this forum is for.🥰
