I don't like that comb chart. They have walnut, & Strawberry shown as two different comb types, even though they're the same type of comb, with the same genes.
Given that it shows Rose and Spiked Rose as two different types, it is clearly going by appearance, not genetics.

But I also find it frustrating that Walnut, Strawberry, and Cushion are shown as three different types, when all three of them are genetically pea + rose.

Combining walnut X Duplex would look interesting.
It would probably just look like a small walnut (or cushion or strawberry) comb, although you might get the funny nostrils that go with V combs.

I was thinking the Duplex gene would cause a split down the center of the comb, like it does with Single combs, giving the Buttercup comb.

I found a post with a photo of a chicken that is pure for Pea comb and Duplex comb. No obvious split in the comb.

I've been looking for other mixes, but so far I haven't found photos of Rose/Duplex, or Pea/Rose/Duplex. I'm guessing they won't show the split either, but that's a guess with no proof right now.

Thinking I should do some experimenting on this, first I need a bird with Duplex. Sicilian, Buttercup would be my go too, since I'm not a huge fan of vaulted Skulled breeds such as polish.

This one has a Divide/Split going on.

There are actually two duplex comb genes. One causes Buttercup combs, the other causes V combs like in Polish.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2013691/
(I read the abstract, didn't try for the whole article)

I've read that the V form can cause a comb like Buttercup, when it's heterozygous (chicken has one copy of the gene), and causes a smaller comb (V) and cavernous nostrils when the chicken is homozygous (two copies of the gene.) I can't remember where I read this, so I can't give a link to it.

Maybe experimenting with both would help understand the genes?

So, it has different effects with 1-2 copies?

I'll read that tomorrow, I'll have more time then.
