They're a riot!!

I agree with Mrs. AK - you think brahmas don't have personality?!? I intended on giving mine all mythological names. Ended up naming them by their unique and funny personalities instead. Including the one I named after my SO's ex wife.

Ummmm....I love all my chickens. However, this particular one follows me around all the time "complaining". And fat? OMG this chicken is fat! So I named her Fatty ______. My SO made me change it though. Said he didn't like hearing her name every day. So now I call her Jezebel. He said that names reminds him of his ex too!

I can definatley tell you that my experience with Buff Orpingtons has NOT, i repeat NOT been favorable. The two of them i had, while both still alive were skittish, and the roo turned out extremely aggresive. Here are my other breeds i can tell you of;

RIR - One, Mocha is the SWEETEST bird. She talks, and talks, and talks, though. She will cuddle, but is slightly
afraid now that a kid got aholts of her  But the other, Java, is one of the most evil chickens ive
ever had! Aggressive, skittish,....just evil in general.

Sex-link - She is a good girl. Not really sweet, but will come right up and socialize. She is alittle more skittish
than the others, but she doesnt talk at all, just on the rare occasions. Isnt aggressive at all.

Australorp - She is so sweet! She talks, CONSTANTLY. Shes very curious, niping, not biting! - at your cloths, and is so soft. She is still skittish because she was raised for money and sitting, not for pet life, but she has come around SO, SO much. A beautiful, personable bird.

Wyandotte - My GLW, Rama, is such a sweetheart. Shes the lowest on the pecking order, besides the cockerels, but is a sweetie. Shes skittish, but i honestly think if she had had hands on interaction as a chick, she would love on you and never stop. But, she was raised with the others i got from some lovely amish folk, which means no "lovey dovey" on chicks.

My SLW, Seta, is a different case altogether - just like the RIRs. Seta is evil. Like java, she wont come around me or anyone else; if you get to close she pecks you; and generally makes a fuss of everything. On top of that, shes very aggressive with my other chickens.
Oh, and they dont talk - only once in a blue moon!

Rock - I have one barred rock, and she is very calm most of the time. Although, she isnt personable - rather bland, actually. She is just.....there. I couldnt even give her a good name

Altough, she doesnt talk at all, but is periodically aggressive.

Morans - I have a Cuckoo morans cockerel, and he is the SWEETEST most PERSONABLE boy ive EVER seen in my life. He is So, SO SO SO SO calm! Just so placid, but not bland at all. Very sweet - he just comes right up, and get so close to you. Always submissive, NEVER aggressive. Like my australorp tau'i, he will peck at your clothes, and is completely trusting. He actually enjoys being loved on quite thoroughly. Growing a big nice comb/wattles to boot! Just a great boy all around.
*He does talk a bit - mostly just crowing though. I dont know about hens, but they should be fairly quiet I would suppose!

Hope this helps someway!

I have a very quiet Buckeye. She is sweet. For the longest time I thought that she was a RIR or a NHR but she looks like the pics of a Buckeye.

Buckeyes sound great, since i live a stones throw away from Warren/Oh. I have seen some at the fair, but my two daughters want chickens tht also look pretty,so that why thought about the "flavor-rolls"i looked a bit into the astralorps they sound cool. My DH dont care as long as they dony bother him.But he thought that the longtails at the fair and the seramas were cool.

My barred rock hen Betty is calm and laid back. My buff orp hens are calm, and will cuddle if they're in the mood. My RIR hens are a bit more skittish, but one or two of them will jump up and be a lap chicken or shoulder chicken. The black Australorps are downright nuts. They come flying out of the coop all 7 trying to get through the door at the same time and are NOT the least bit interested in being buddies with a human UNLESS said human is holding a treat cup or plate. By FAR the most laid back chicken(s) I have are the Golden Comets. They are all four sweet, nonagressive, not flighty or easily freaked out, and the two younger (2 POL pullets) love to be talked to and petted. I go into the coop each night and make sure everyone has a good "night-night" spot and the jostling for position has stopped, and the roost is just about my shoulder level. These 2 will come up to me, stretch out their necks so they can put their heads on my shoulders, and wait for their nightly petting session. They croon and talk softly to me the whole time, and even seem to not want me to leave. (could be my imagination, but if it is, don't burst my bubble!!

They are really sweet.
