Girls wallowing in the dirt??

I have a few dust hole around my yard too...I put a 5 gal bucket with dirt and sand in the coop for them and some of the jump right in...they love it...

Oh yeah, that's the dust bath. It's too funny except when you first see it, it kind of freaks you out.....they look like they are dead.....this is how they keep off lice and mites...it's amazing.

I actually put a sandbox in their coop!! They love it!!!

They sure do love to get the dirt flying! I wish I had video of the girls helping me yesterday. We are expanding our little fish pond and I could hardly shovel dirt for all the chickens kicking and scratching in the hole!

Our girls ignore the "sandbox" we made for them and instead have first eaten, then dug out the roots of my hosta plants on the patio and now have their own tubs to bathe in.

Thanks for all your responses!! I bought some DE - should I just mix it in at their favorite dusting spot to get it on them?
