Glued Eye Shut of Baby Chick Natural Remedy

The eye looks totally black, with the bubbles in it. Could she have been pecked in the eye? Bubbles can be a sign of mycoplasma gallisepticum or MG, but the eye looks black which is abnormal. I would keep it separated for now, at leasst with some netting or fencing.

So it’s a good sign if the eye is black? Do chickens eyes discharge bubbles when their eyes are wounded? Or just when they’re sick?
It scratches at the eye and since it couldn’t close the eye for a couple day, it couldn’t close it while scratching. It seems to be much more happy now. And is spunky as the other chicks, just socially weird. It’s eye is probably damaged.

No a black eye is not a good sign. In some reading, it can be a sign of eye injury, heredity, or blindness. In all my reading there hasn’t been much mention of why a chicken has bubbles in an eye. But it is common with MG infection. It could be common with an eye injury.

I hope its only an injury. This chick is a silky and silkies have pure black eyes and skin, their tongues are even black. So maybe it’d be hard to tell if it was supposed to be red or not?

Received chicks in mail but one had it’s eyes glued shut and was basically blind. This is the natural treatment I gave it that works great! I did lots of research before performing it. I also have a a degree in Biology so I kinda know this stuff.
Honey & water

water

coconut oil (mixsolid into a soft cream)

Steps:

1. rinse eye with warm water. Make sure to make it very wet without toutching it. And make sure the water isn’t too warm/hot

2 wait 20 seconds

3 drop honey water into eye

4 very very very carefully wipe eye in a downward or upper motion: depending on how it’s glued. * this step should maybe performed in the 2nd or 3rd depending on severity

5 put coconut cream around eye area
My little baby silky chick is doing much better and can close both eyes! The treatment has worked wonders but she isn’t completely healed so we’ll be treating her 3 times daily until she’s completely recovered. She still has never showed any signs of illness so I’m 98% sure she’s just injured and isn’t sick.

It may be a respiratory infection or it could be a local infection of the eye caused by being in contact with the egg material. I would treat it with an ocular antibiotic such as terramycin or Neosporin if you don't have access to the terramycin.

Watch the other chicks carefully for similar symptoms. If you see that, then you'll know you need to deal with a respiratory infection with Tylosin.

Just wanted to update! Been 4 hours since last treatment and she’s doing great! I’ll attach the pictures. One pic is just after treatment and the other is her in the brooder just now! Been using eye wash instead of water for the first step I got from Petco too! She can open and close her eyes at will and has less discharge! Before she couldn’t close her eyes for 2 days after she arrived in the mail. It appeared that her eyes were glued since she hatch from the egg. Probably from egg yolk. Will update later on. Hopefully she makes a full recovery!
