GMOS' Genetically modified feed?

Funny how anyone who is skeptical is labeled a shill. It's OK because very few people understand genetics outside biology. I don't know why the evil scientist is such a popular meme. Biologists are some of my favorite people who are only trying to make a better life for humanity. GM crops are good science and food advances enable biologists to feed an ever growing population.

The video is about how a farmer in Bangladesh is using GM eggplant which is a staple. It's helping people not to starve and use less pesticides.

Very cool video!! This shows that humans can make something a little better than it was and ALL beings can profit from it, to include mother nature. Using less pesticides, so the pollinating insects can do their job and help us grow more food!

It's not hype. GMO's are an experiment and we are the lab rats.
Again I will ask, why did it take decades for companies to finally label GMO's on their list of ingredients?
I'll answer that.
Because they now have to LEGALLY do so.
Remember when people believed that tobacco was safe?
How long did it take before consumers paid for that false belief?

To answer your reply....
The last I had learned, 60 (SIXTY) countries around the world, have either outright bans or major restrictions on the sale of GMOs. However.....

In America, GMO's safety is based on the studies conducted by the very same corporations that create GMO's and then profit from their sale. Seriously.
This is what our government relies on?!?!
Does anyone see a conflict of interest here?
Have you ever heard of the Fox guarding the hen house?
Independent scientists who attempt to expose any issues with GMO's have been threatened, fired or denied funding. I encourage you to look into this yourself.

GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide. That just means more chemicals are being used. Research has showed, commercial soybeans sold today routinely contain the herbicide Roundup (glyphosate) that its maker, Monsanto, once described themselves as “extreme” (Bøhn et al 2014). The World Health Organization no longer considers it a relatively harmless chemical.

GMO's are used to gain patent rights on seeds and plants. This forces farmers to indirectly help agribusiness, all the while driving their own profits down.

I find it interesting that some of the people replying on here believe they are safe.
Where is your proof?
Who funded it?
Are you willing to risk this your pets and families health, because you believe what the big corporations tell you?
Once again I encourage everyone to look into this themselves. I'm not asking anyone to take my word or in your words "opinion" on it. For latest info visit http://www.gmoevidence.com/

If you want to test out the safety long term on your animal and families health. I wish you all the best. Just make sure you have the best health insurance.

Let's see the health of the same farmer years from now.

"The video is about how a farmer in Bangladesh is using GM eggplant which is a staple. It's helping people not to starve and use less pesticides. "

It's also about propaganda from a large agri-company verses a poor trusting farmer.

If you feel comfortable testing the health of your own family and animals, I wish you all the best.

Countrybirdgirl I looked at the link you provided and ONE big item stuck out to me. All the DR listed that were supposedly contributing research were only listed by their last name, that's it. I tried to research some of the DR's listed and could not. Now there was One DR from Australia that could be possible legit, but her Bio only came up on the website from the link. Interesting to say the least. Each of the linked website to this one was as strange as well in "Who" was actually giving the scientific information. But this is just my research and I am no scientist.

How does this work for you?

Type in gmo you will get pages and pages of articles.
I'm sure you will find fault and/or question some or all of those provided links, and that is your prerogative to do so. You're entitled to your opinion, as am I. Some of the links may even be a little dated, but keep reading anyway. It's a real eye opener.

I simply encourage EVERYONE to look into this themselves.

I'm uncertain (and honestly a bit suspicious) of why you are so vehemently in favor of testing out the safety of these genetically produced ingredients on yourself and/or family, but I am entitled to be so. Frankly I don't care if you want to be a guinea pig for big agri-business, and I don't wish to waste anymore time on people who already have their mind made up and are willing to risk those that they care about. That's your business.
If you wish to keep debating, which can go on endlessly, find someone else.
I've obviously struck a nerve.

There is enough info out there for anyone to look into this for themselves.
Start calling food/feed companies directly and ask them about.
Some of them are in the process of having to remove GMO's due to the onslaught of educated consumers calling into their customer service numbers.
People are waking up in droves.
I'm certainly not asking anyone to take my word for this.
I'm just suggesting that people look into what they are feeding their animals and also themselves, because I sincerely care about the welfare of people.
I also care very much about the farmers.

Anyone who has had a family member or close friend that has undergone a dreadful disease, should be able to educate themselves on their food.
Decades of corporations adding these ingredients to most foods, without the the knowledge of the consumer should tell you something about why they have kept it hidden for so long.
It's only now because of a recent law that they have to disclose it. Suspicious indeed.

The question then begs, why take a on risk anyone's health if you don't have to?

To GMO or not to GMO? That is the Question!!
LOL, you did not strike any nerve with me. Every once in a while I like to dabble in a controversial debate and this satisfied my hunger. I do however commend you for your passion on the issue and sticking to your guns. Yes you did enlighten my on what GMO’s are and what they are doing with animal feed and human feed. I even took some time to look at past threads debating this issue and like this one there cannot be a winner on either side of debate without someone’s feelings getting hurt. So as I scabbard my debate sword, I do have a question to you. So why as a brand new member come out beating the war drum on GMO’S? This site is for sharing wonderful stories of people who love to raise all kinds of birds. Yes there are many discussion on how to raise a flock a thousand ways to Sunday, so be prepared to get schooled(LOL) So I ask this of you to post some pictures and blog about your hopefully wonderful experience, in aviculture, then maybe turn up the heat about your GMO passion.

Thanks for being honest about your desire to debate and also about being open minded enough to have gone to the links which I had provided.
Actually I'm not a new member, just a relatively new poster, LOL. What started out was a real concern about my animals feed and it took off from there!
I've learned a lot about chickens on this site and have found many of the members to be absolutely wonderful. It's nice to still see very helpful and caring people on here.
I simply do not have the time desired to spend on here that I'd like.

It's been wonderful "debating" with you, LOL
I wish you nothing but the best

Thanks for responding Chicken Canoe. Actually the profit margin is much higher for companies to use GMO's. That's one of the reasons that you will now see it listed on many of the food products.
And.... the only reason they now list it, is because they legally have to do so. Sad, but true.

What about all the decades that we have been feeding our animals, and ourselves(!) these genetically artificial ingredients? If they cared so much and felt it was safe, why hide it all these years? You have to wonder why Cancer is so commonplace.

The problem is that the poor farmers have to go through so much red tape to be certified as organic and much larger companies who own and control the majority of the seeds, lean on them and squeeze them out of business. Large corporations run the show and could care less whether or not they might very well be hurting the health of the consumer or their animals. GMO's simply give better profits.

I understand and can appreciate your passion. Actually I'm quite the nutrition Nazi.
However, I think we can get a little carried away on one topic. I wish there was no such thing as GMO crops.

You must not live in the US. You won't see GMO listed on food products in the US in spite of the bill that has passed. The bill gives the USDA the authority to decide what genetically engineered ingredients will require labeling. Additionally, the producer is given the option of how they will label the packaging.
This means that roundup ready corn and soy may be excluded and specifically genetically engineered salmon will not be labeled.
Rather than the words 'contains GMO ingredients' appearing on the label, it could simply have a QR code that requires scanning with a smart phone or needing to go to the manufacturer's website.
Weak labeling laws are endemic to the US.

Cancer is commonplace because of all the chemicals in our environment we are constantly exposed to as well as all the artificial ingredients in our foods.
While I avoid GMO as much as possible, I fear red dye #6 and artificial flavors more than I do GMO.
When feeding my bees, I only use C&H sugar because it is from pure cane sugar. The rest are made from sugar beets and 100% of sugar beets are GMO.
I don't buy papayas from Hawaii because they're GMO.
I don't buy salmon if it isn't specifically labeled 'wild caught'.

My best advice if you want to eat more healthy foods, don't eat anything in a package. Strictly meat and fish that contain no ingredients and fresh fruits and vegetables.

In my opinion, Monsanto and other agri-businesses have aggressively pursued GMOs because it allows them to dominate the seed market and the Roundup ready crops allow them to sell more of their pesticides.
However, what has happened is that with ever greater use of roundup, the pests are becoming ever more resistant.

Thank you for educating me a bit more regarding the food. I completely agree and try to avoid anything prepackaged. Feeding chickens and other animals, food that is as natural as possible is the safest best. Here's to everyone and to all animals staying safe. Let big agribusiness find other ways to line their greedy, unconscionable pockets.
