simply adorable. And they're lacing already. Have fun with them!

looks like the thread has slowed. Hopefully not died. I'm new to GL. I have a mature trio that I suspect are chocolate based I'm doing some experimentation on to check and also in the process of growing out black based chicks. Look forward to hearing from all of you and learning.

First of all, I will be giving you all a good laugh. We bought two Gold Laced Orpingtons at a local swap meet back in April. We were told that they were female. Not being familiar with this particular variety of Orpington's we had not really thought much else about their sex.... well today we finally realized our girls are boys! I knew something was not quite right... They have great dispositions. Our ladies consist of 4 Barred Rocks and 1 Buff Orpington. We were willing to pay more for these guys because we really like the Orpington personality and disposition. I have pictures of our guys that I will try and post. I know we cannot keep them both and I am wondering if we just need to sell them. We are in a quandry. We are, obviously, rather new to chickens and have had NO experience with Roo's. Can anyone tell me anything about these guys?

I just got my first GLO hatchling, from a batch of hatching eggs. I can't remember of feathering out first on wings is a trait by which they can be sexed. I have a picture of him under the brooder light:

Any idea as to gender?

I am a newbie. I have been looking for a breed to start my coop with and have fell in love with the gold lace orpington. I was wondering how often :/the GL will lay an egg. I have read that the English orpington do not lay as well as the standard orpington. Any advice would be appreciated.:yiipchick
