Google search feature doesn't work on my system

You and the others also have all offered great ideas. I sent an email to my older brother. If he can build one, he might know how to fix this. He knows everything.

So if I read correctly, Internet Explorer access Google search (google.com?) but Chrome cannot? Do you have any Chrome Extensions installed, and what kind of security software might you have installed? If it's extensions, Incognito window in chrome by default disables all extensions unless you have them enabled for Incognito. Click the wrench in chrome, choose new Incognito window and try accessing google. If it still doesn't work and you have extensions enabled, for incognito too try disabling all of them. You can view and manage extensions by clicking the wrench and hover over tools, and click Extensions.

Aside from extensions, then there may be some sort of wacky weird firewall going on that you may have installed on your computer or something? Last, it could be a virus, though I really would look into the extensions first if you haven't since I've seen many many chrome users have problems (similar to this) and in the end it was because they had an extension installed.

If you're running XP (SP2+) or higher, I personally don't suggest additional firewalls as Microsoft includes a good firewall built into windows (you can access it in the control panel).

Hi--- is it solved yet? :eek:0

Here is a link that tells how to change your internet default browser (chrome is one example)

http://www.guidingtech.com/6579/change-default-browser-make-firefox-chrome-ie-default-browser/

I just now got on to Chrome and I have been on for 30-seconds, but I already see what you mean as much as 30-seconds worth can tell. You just may be on to something here.

If the above link doesn't solve it for you-- go to IE and type in 'how to change default internet browser' and see what links pop up.

Hope that you get back to where you want to be.

ETA - another idea.... if however unlikely, a file somehow got corrupted in your chrome install---you could uninstall and reinstall chrome. You would get it from their website- http://www.google.com/chrome/?hl=en&brand=chmo

I need to work on this again. The new platform does allow me to do searches but doesn't shoe the google search words of the old system.

Is the problem that you want your Google Chrome browser to open up initially on the Google home page? if so, click the little wrench icon on the upper right, go to options, basic, and under On Startup select open the home page, under home page select "open this page" and type http://www.google.com in that box. Then further down under search, pick Google as the search engine.

Does that help?

It does go to google BUT google sends back a 404 msg that it doesn't want my connection I think there must still be a virus , IDK, becaue I can connect to google via IE and FF. IDK.

Sheesh, I use Chrome almost all the time now because of you. ho ho ho. Love that page where all the recent visits show up as an icon.

Have you tried to go to the Chrome home page through IE and just reinsatll chrome? Wouldn't that be nice if the fix was that easy?

Hi ChicKat,

Here's the really odd thing. Since the system change a couple weeks ago, I can do searches, just no google search in the search bar. How odd is that??

So, thank fully I can search for more of the interesting subjects I want to know more about.

Thanks for you suport and help. I learned a lot of tech stuff I didn't know. TY
