>>Goose Attack<< (graphic)

I just want to give you some hope that your poor ducky will be fine. I thought that my little white albino Mallard was a male for the longest time and had him (really her) in with Gus, the male Pekin. One morning, I went into the coop to find my poor Mallard with a head that looked like hamburg. He had been trying to mate with her and really brutalized her. I brought her in to the house and gave her TLC until I felt that she had recovered enough to go back outside. She is now in an area where none of the males can get to her. Here is what she looked like

and she looks absolutely 100% now. She had completely bare patches on both sides of her head but you would never know it.

So glad your girl recovered so well...and VERY happy to know that all her feathers grew back! I'd feel like i to had to put a mini stocking hat on my girl everyday if she stayed bald

thanks for all the support everyone, I really appreciate it. Nibbs appetite is still not all there so I am going to wait til tomorrow for the antibiotics, she's clean, scabbing very well & i don't have to worry about her running around in anything yucky. She's just been sleeping a lot... getting quite comfy in her new diggs in the warm house!!

I'm amazed at how much bruising there is in some parts, one wing is black & blue all over, Like they just wouldnt let go.
Most of her head is surprisingly clean, her face is pretty torn up though.
She also had a few pin feathers on her wings (flight feathers) from her mini-molt that got chewed up & were a little bloody. I cleaned them up today & let her walk around & flap her, now pathetic-looking, wings.

PS...
Apparently she doesnt like cats when she's sick... she got the kitten right in the melon this afternoon.... i totally thought she was going to love on her then "BOP!!"... kitty was off like a rocket.

My Toulouse geese and Indian Runners were all four days old when I got them. They've been together since day one. The geese are actually protective about the ducks. I do worry about them with the chickens though. So sad to see your poor little duck so injured.

my gander is a hen- killer and a duck chaser - we keep them separate from everyone. he gets worse when its breeding season...and for some reason he really just has it in for this old lame hen that i have.

i love that ol' galoot tho... they are great parents and fun in every other way (but being with the other poultry).

Aww I wouldn't get rid of the geese just for being geese. Mine drowned one of my reuns once. I never got rid of them because of it. Just keep your ducks penned away from them. You've probably got some very protective ganders. Its their nature to act like that. Some breeds are more agressive then others.

Mine were raised with chickens and ducks. Some them were even in love with the ducks.

Yours is very unusual. My Muscovies used to beat the geese up. Esp the drakes.

I hope your duck recovers. She reminds me of the ones I used to have.

Oh Bleenie!!!

Poor Sweet Nibbles!

Bleenie, I hope Nibbles is getting better. Sorry you had the unfortunate of having mean geese. I'm one of the lucky ones. We had our ducks a month before getting a pair of pilgrim geese. The geese are protective of our ducks. But to be on the safe side, I have a 3ft long piece of tubing that is 2 ft in diameter. I covered the ends with chicken wire and left a little corner open for the ducks to get to in case of a goose attack or turkey attack. It serves it's purpose. But next spring will be the challenge as it will be our first breeding season with the ducks and geese. I hope they all get along.

Again, I hope Nibbles recovers fully.

UPDATE:

Nibbles is doing good. She's healing very well & get's TONS of time in the house since it's started freezing here. She usually stays in a crate in the house when it's really cold outside but i try to give her some nights outside dince i dont wanna shock her when she's all healed & has to go back out in the cold.

Her scabs look good, for scabs anyway. they're slowly starting to fall off where the new skin is coming in. She's growing back her feathers on her wings, mostly fluff right now but some pin feathers are coming in slowly.

She's learned EXACTLY where the dog dishes are & everytime she comes inside she runs immediately to it to get some dog food 'treats'...doesnt matter if the dogs are eating or not... She even got my rottweiler in the head yesterday for being in her way!

I do have my geese/ducks/chickens all in the same coop/run, they have been together since they were all babies so I think that makes a HUGE difference in their co-existing together!!
