I candled the eggs tonight.

8 with good veins

3 clear

1 with a black blob like maybe it was developing before it was sent to me.

Not too bad, huh? Glad you'll probably get some birds out of it. Hope they're the ones you asked for, LOL.

That is the next big hurdle if they hatch! What will they be?

Cockadoodlemom is sending me 5 pure embdens this week so hopefully they will hatch for me.

I find mutt chickens taste the same as pure breeds. Probably the same for geese, but I'm not sure if you wanted them for meat.

I opened the bator for the daily cool down. Opening the lid it was readily apparent something had gone wrong. I candled again and clearly some bacteria was growing in 2 of the 8 eggs.

I am down to 6 eggs on day 8.

I guess it is not a huge surprise though.

I candled the eggs tonight as I did the 15 min cool down. Another one has black freckles of bacteria in the shell. I can only see movement in 1 egg.

I am not sure if I am down to 5 or 1.

You are only 1/4 of the way through incubation. I wouldn't think you should see movement yet.

Don't be too quick to toss the eggs.

I didn't toss. I have the 4 in the incubator. I could clearly see movement the other night. Tonight I only see movement in 1.

The other ones are clearly growing bacteria inside the shell the same as the other ones before.

The 2 I removed last night had a stench and the bacteria growth was amazing in 24 hours.

I will candle these other 2 tomorrow night and look for growth of the black freckles before I toss them. unless like the others there was a clear smell when the bator was opened.
