Hello Guys
I have a gosling that has black feet. They look very sore. Very flakey feet all over and also on the corners of its mouth.

Been to the vet and they think it is scaley mite, just like chickens get.

They have given me some stuff the vet makes up as apparently they don't have anything on the market to get these little mites.

Anyone had this?? The vet said it was very unusual to get it in geese.

I will get a photo if needed.

Cheers

A photo would be nice, usually geese can stay parasite free if given bathing water, sorry about your lil one.

Usually geese do not get mites. Have you had enough water around for the goose at all times? Geese need lots of water to drink so they can put the head into the water and blow out their nostrils. Plus fresh water to bathe in. The water has to be fresh.

I'd add some ACV to their buckets of water also, it has antiseptic properties 1-2 tab to 1 gallon of water, Un pasteurized ACV
ACV?

They have a paddling pool to wash in and a fresh bucket of water everyday. Plus the river just down the way but they are not keen on the idea of the river at the moment as it is out of their comfort zone.

Thanks for that! Willing to give anything ago at least once.

Hubby got some pictures on his phone. I will get him to download them when he gets in.

you can also use olive oil on the legs do it when time to go to bed so it doesn't get washed off, the oil is suppose to smother the mites, and you can also use it around the mouth.

Not pretty Im afraid.
Wow I have never seen this in a goose, are the scales standing up, hard to tell in the pic, but on a chicken the scales are raised. I believe I'd soak those feet and legs in some Epsom salt water which will kill the mites then tonight rub olive oil into his legs and feet real good. any other look like this? usually the whole flock of chickens will get it.
