Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I know it's a while off yet. But, What temp ( Celsius ) and what humidity % do I need for incubating Geese eggs?

Also, What temps and humid % do I need at shut down?
How long do they take to incubate and when do I go into shut down?
Is turning the same?

Any extra information?

Find the thread about incubating goose eggs by Pete55. (I don´t know how to put it on here in blue) It´s full of information, and you´ll have more idea about what you´re doing.
Actually, there are two. Goose Incubation and hatching Guide, and Goose Breeding....., both started by Pete55.

Maybe a dumb question but here goes.. Got 5 goose eggs in the bator, on day 24.. Will they completely fill the shell as chicken eggs do? I can still see a bit of fluid at pointy end of egg...Air cells look good...
For the most part, yes. There may still be a tiny little bit of space, but as long as they are moving and/or you see signs of blood vessels, they should be okay. The space that you would see on a goose egg would just be the unabsorbed yolk. On a chicken egg, the space is much smaller in general, so you usually can't see it. But on a goose egg, which is like zooming in on a picture of a chicken egg, you might see some. But they still have roughly a week to go, so they'll probably fill it up.

Night Night...I'm off soon as well. See, not only do you help your fellow man but the wonderful critters of the world as well! You and Iain have that in common I think! Bless you both for what you do to help the innocents among us!

I do wish I could save them all, but harsh reality says I can't. We have a horrible stray dog problem here, they are very aggressive and some have mange so bad they are hairless. Tried calling animal control, they won't do squat and I don't have the resources or knowledge to do anything for them. I have been attacked by those dogs, I have scars on my arms to prove it, and so has a 15 year old boy. In addition those dogs broke into yards and ripped Thr front leg off a full grown German shepard, and ripped a weenie dog to pieces, they also killed a female Shepard/husky mix that got loose from her yard. My policy with those dogs is shoot to kill if they set 1 paw on my property. I feel it's the most humane thing I can do, put them out of their misery and remove a danger from our neighborhood. People like to dump their dogs at the gas station, not realizing that the stray packs with most likely kill them. If its a puppy or very friendly I will catch them, de-flea and tick them and try to find them a home. I found 3 homes and 1 I had to send to a shelter, but that's better than road kill or torn apart.

The cats are easier, I work with a rescue group who only charges me $20 a cat for shots and spay/neuter. I trap, deliver, pick up and release. And this is for my benefit, the cats will defend their territory from new cats, keeping the population stable, and prevents a pregnancies. Cats can have kittens every 4 months! I have rescued and rehomed 9 kittens, and rescued and kept 7 for myself (1 is my daughter who is leaving for college so I only have 6 with me now). All my cats are female and spayed. Also, did you know Tom cats will umm, force a female to mate, even after she been spayed? It happened to my outside calico, she came to me crying and some of her girl parts were hanging outside her body! I rushed her to the vet and she is fine now. But the trapping of cats benefits me, and the cats I get so I do it.

J you did the right thing there, how could you not fall in love with that face, look at those eyes.

Thanks, Patti. She has the sweetest personality to match those big doe eyes. I'm quite enchanted by her.

Went in to clean Missy and Sams house and saw # 18 laying out from under it's cover of shavings nasty as all get out so decided to bring it in to test for fertility, now Missy has not been brooding she may go in for an hour once a day and she does sit on them at night, some days she isn't in there at all. but when I opened this egg up ya'll it had veins so it had started to develop. I thought they had to be brooding 24/7 before they started to develop. It did make me feel badly. She laid #27 this morning before daylight. so she laid 2 eggs a day apart.

Congrats on fertile eggs developing!! Don't feel bad. She has plenty more eggs to sit on and hatch out. And FYI, depending on your daytime temps, she may not need to sit on them long to get them to cooking temp and then if she has her nest built up well, the eggs will retain temp for a while without her sitting on them.

Woke up to happy surprises in the incubator this morning!

The ducklings came out of khaki campbell eggs, so I guess I need to have a serious sit down talk with my cayuga boys!

I have shared about the Canada pair that has tried for 2 yrs to nest on an island in out Mountain river with out success because her nest get flooded, well this yr they have out done them selves. They hatched 6 goslings sometime from yesterday till today. and they all look great. Now if they can keep them safe from preds and rising water. I am so happy for this pair.

Congrats!!! I'm about ready to kill my Canada gander as he is bullying all of my birds and taking over their favorite part of the pasture. And based on the timing, the goose is still is laying mode and hasn't yet gone broody.

Is this the "official" hatching thread of 2014? I haven't been on BYC much lately, so I'm very behind.

I have a question for those of you that let your geese (specifically Sebs) hatch their own eggs. While I was on vacation, my mom was too intimidated (she's afraid of birds) to take the eggs from one of my Seb girls, so she's sitting on a nest of five eggs. I've never let any of my geese hatch their own eggs before. Is it safe to let her mate stay in with her? These two were pretty accepting when I introduced them to my American goslings last spring, so I'm leaning towards letting dad stay with her. What do you think?

You can absolutely leave Dad with broody mom. In fact, I have found my ganders to be slightly more trustworthy than my geese around baby goslings.

Five eggs in the incubator and a broody goose about 14 days in. Not bad for a yearling! She is the one that adopted goslings when she was 6 weeks old. She played the part of mother well then. She seems to be doing a fine job now. Never off the nest more than 15 minutes. That was on a day that was almost 80.

Hope you hatch babies this year.... but more importantly, I hope your geese stay healthy!!

Ok on tuesday my pure bred Africans will hatch and these are the goslings ive been waiting for! And they will be my last batch for the year but theres always a few eggs from my broody geese that arent hatched yet so i finish incubating them but other then that my last eggs are tuseday :)
And then its the stage when we will watch the gozzys grow

Well, 3 cats dropped off for spay/neuter and shots. Will pick up this afternoon and release tomorrow.

Now to ransack my house, we are having a yard sale/donation thing this Saturday. All the money will be given to my neighbor who lost everything Easter Sunday. We even ran a article in the news paper advertising it. I just hope we have a good turn out.

I always feel so frustrated when yet another dog gets dumped around our place. When they´re pups I take them to an animal feed store that finds homes for them, but sadly, in turn those pups eventually breed more pups...vicious circle.
Every few years the gov here will fund a neutering campaign but of course it doesn´t really solve the problem. A few weeks back I spotted a young *****, maybe 6 months, that suddenly appeared in the next neighbourhood. as time has gone on, she´s got thinner, and now it looks like she´s been hit in the side by a car, because she´s not using one leg. I think she may have a cracked knee-bone or something. She´s so sweet. today I was stroking her, and tried to gain her trust. some people are obviously throwing her some scraps, but no-one will care for her properly. I talked my hubby into letting me take her to the vet, and maybe keep her. He didn´t like the idea, as there are always more, and we already have 6. And here, vets cost a bomb. So does the food.
Well, I went to try but didn´t succeed. I got a lead draped around her after a long while, but she panicked so much being restrained that I had to let her go for fear of her damaging the leg even more. i came home disappointed. My hubby was relieved, he said it already costs us a lot of money with the ones we have, which is true. Such a sad situation with these animals.

I had the same problem with Rascal. As soon as he felt a rope on his neck he started thrashing and screaming out! I took it off, pet him for a while, and led him as close as he would go to the car. My kids opened the door and my sister and I picked him up and put him in. He never offered aggression or we wouldn't have tried it. Maybe take some treats for her with you. She might follow you if you feed her every few feet. Also, condition her to having your hands all over her body as you tame her down, she may trust you enough to allow you to carry her.
