Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Sounds like a good prognosis livin. keep the pic coming I kind of got behind having to move my dad in with us and working on getting his apt cleaned up and everything taken to here or other places so I am behind on all new hatchings.

P, glad to hear your dad is moving in with you. I hope everyone adjusts easily to the transition.

Thanks so much for posting and yes we are all interested!

I had a really hard time allowing the eggs to be left alone and do their own thing. the one we raised died and i think it is because we messed with it so much. GREAT work with raising the eggs/gosies so well! !

So glad it worked Serv!

LIVIN, sounds like my kind of duck! You should overnight the gosie to me =) she would fit in with my crew perfectly =) im glad they are both doing well so far.

If you remember, let me know what he says about a Fl specialist =) and update us on how everyone is doing!.

Oh! I was thinking about your specs you sent me on the room. How do you keep them from not slipping on the linoleum? I have decided to bring Ollie inside with Forest. I just dont like her being alone when we are gone. We have a florida porch (front porch, hard wood floors, all windows) that I am going to section off half of for them. I brought Ollie inside and even he which has no leg problems couldnt walk on the wood floors. he slid all over them.....

Ollie is getting used to me holding him, but Forest is still scared and will run to me when he is near. all he has to do is look at her and she runs to me like a toddler on a playground! when they are both inside my house. she is fine with him?? I have an inside goose.... I wonder if it will ever change. right she is being forced to stay outside little amounts with the ducks but she doesnt like it.

Fun day for us! We brought home 3 new mixed breed ducks!! 2f/1m they are cayuga mix! (farmer has a mixed flock of several breeds (runner, cayuga, scovie, and more) i picked out one female that looks like a runner/uga, a male that looks like a mallard/uga and a female uga that is so vibrant purple and green that her feathers look a bit fake! took pics today but its hard to see there colors.

Update on the orphaned ducklings. i will post pics. two drakes adopted them. weird i know. one of them is a drake that i rehabbed/released two weeks ago.

I am sorry we did not talk about vets in Florida, but I definitely recall him endorsing UF before. As for slippery surfaces, I put thick towels or blankets inside pen for traction.
My drake looks after his little ones.... :D

What a great drake!
Well, the dead duck in the nieghbour´s field appears to have been mine. She was one of the ducks with 3 ducklings, but the ducklings were here safe with the other ducks. Maybe they´d come home alone when their poor mom was killed....
But also last weekend, another duck that likes to go into the neighbour´s field disappeared with her ducklings. I figured the dog must have got them all, how sad. My hubby said maybe she´d taken the ducklings to my neighbour´s pond, but I didn´t think so, as I´d already sold this duck to my neighbour ages ago and she nested there, then brought all her ducklings back to me! So, I thought it unlikely she´d be over there.
Well, yesterday, there she was, coming back across the field with her little ones in tow. I wondered if she´d been with the other duck when the other duck was killed, that this one had taken the ducklings off to a safe environment...stayed there for a week, while the vultures and cardcará made short work of the body of the dead duck, then she brought them home. That´s a smart duck, I reckon. Muscovy, needless to say!

Sorry to hear that the duck was yours, but glad to hear your other duck came home safely with her babies.

Best of wishes with your dad moving in. I am sure things will all work out fine. We have been trying to get my mother (93 years old) to move in with us but she is just so afraid of moving so far out and away from everything. It is a transition but family is something special and sometimes takes special effort but always worth it.

Yep. I come from a family of very long lived women. My grandmother died on her 100th birthday and my great-grandmother was 104 and still living on her own when she died. The men, not so much, they only make it into their 90's. Such is life I suppose. Again, best wishes.

How sweet that drakes would adopt ducklings usually they could care less about babies even their own. When Forest sees Ollie and runs to you do you make over her or just ignore her behavior?
Well, I think they are basically tolerating them, but they arent pecking and chasing them away. Hopefully they will make it. I checked in the pekins and they moved with the mallards?? I will check the other pond at the park tomorrow. a local business owner said that she sees them walking acriss the parking lot to the other pond with the mallards.
it depends on the situation with Forest. Usually I just tell her its okay and continue to do what ever it is i am doing. I try to leave her be unless she is really struggling (fallen and stuck) or stressed out to the point of huffing badly. I noticed tonight that her eyes tear up??? is this normal...maybe i sprayed the off bug spray a little too close to her? our mosquitos are terrible! i have to use it on myself practically every time i am outside but i make sure to stand away from the birds.

I have a really funny question i caught my chinese geese legit flying when I called for them bc i had a treat for them and i heard them looked over my male was a 2 to 3 feet off the ground and the female about 10 feet off the ground but hey just came out of a molt about 2 weeks ago so there feathers are about half the size of normal im so confused unless there a croos with Canadian but the guy i got them from he didn't raise them so is this normal or what?

I'd say Chinese being light weight could fly really well. you'll have to take some pics of them.

Not sure about her eyes, could be a reaction to the bug spray, being born and partly raised in Fl. I remember those mosquitos awful to try and do anything outside. You could get some Veterycin spray and gently spray her eyes it's very safe to use.
