Got me a Java "pic"

My first pure java green from Elton H stock. I love him! I hope I treat him right. His dad and him are raised on chicken layer pellets and scratch. I will probably give him some treats to boot.

Very pretty.... Be careful.... Peafowl are like chickens... Very addictive! I'm up to 40 right now...

Thanks yall. Everyone is saying I should name him.So I might. Holy mackeral chickenzoo thats alot of peafowl! I had no idea you had that many. I only want a girl but thats just to keep him happy. If I had any kids next year I probably just try to find them good homes.Heres some more pics. Hes a little nervous in his new surroundings. After I worm him he is going in my big pen. I am using the pellets for worming pigs that look like layerpellets for chickens my friend gave me althiough I may use ivermectin in the future. Them pellets you are talking about aren't they for daily use like to kill the worms and eggs that may be injested that day so they don't get a load of worms?
if so you have to worm him first then feed him so much a day and ya need to find out what kind of worms they treat some stuff like that kill things like lung worms which i do not think peas even get.
Just something that would be good to know.
Are you going to get a hen like him?

Thanks, I am not sure Zazouse, my friend that had those before he got them gave them injectable ivermectin orally 15 drops twice a year. I'm not sure about worming procedures for peacocks as I have never kept these.
After feeding these pellets I don't want to give them the ivermectin until about 6 months later and that is probably all I will use. I plan to get him a female green, but if I happen to come across any other kind before that
it would just be for company and I would not keep the eggs because I would want them to breed true to only Javas.

The pellets are probably a form of Safeguard. If would be better to get a liquid Safeguard for goats and put 3ccs per gallon of drinking water for five days, repeat in 7-14. Pellets are harder to dose and he may not eat them well...and pick around them... If he was a reg IB etc I'd dose him with it 1 cc per 10lbs down the throat.... But him being a Java, he might freak too much. Then I rotate with the Ivomectrian cattle pour on, 1 cc applied to the skin, like under a wing in the bear area. Some people use the injectable as a pour on also and apply the same amount to skin... Cheaper but with all my critters I always have one form or another....

Thats what I will use after this. He is eating the pellets well. This is all he has had to eat for three days. Today is his last day of these worming pellets. My friend said he gave 15 drops of the injectable ivermectin in the mouth every 6months to all his peafowl. I like the idea of using the injectable ivermectin to bare skin with the saame results. I think Deerman does this also .Hopefully he will chime in here. I want to do whatever is easiest and best of course. I looked back some on the peacock thread but no one really touched on worming very much. Also thanks to everyone that helps me here on my new bird. I know lots about waterfowl but not so much on peafowl. He is alot calmer here now.

Yes, I would avoid giving the Ivomectrian down the throat, as it can hurt their kidneys that way. Through the skin is a little slower but better in the long run. When I use Ivomectrian I like to sneak in at night while they are sleeping and with a syringe stick it through the feathers onto the skin....... Sneak attack.... Hehe. I have so many I use a dosing gun.
