Got my coffee, a donut, and a happy song in my head....

My gross little girls don't need an excuse to toot. If they can't, then they manufacture burps with only water to aid them. They are magicians.

Well, if I can get them to breed true and get others (5 breeders for 5 years) to do the same..... we could make them a breed!

Nella: When I found out that there was a vet here in town that does de crowing, I decided that I would get some roos back.

So turkeybreeder in Mesa who hatched out some of my eggs last year had a Geoffry look alike (his son) and he brought him over and then I had Boston bring back the pretty splash roo. (He's gigantic and gorgeous... the roo not Boston LOL)

Neither has started crowing yet but my wife feels badly I had to give up the Icelandics so she's ready to let me build another coop. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT... I'll just have to keep my numbers down. ca in Wickenburg has some sulmtalers that hopefully I'll get to hatch eventually and then I'm prayin' that The Sherriff will have Isbar and Legbar eggs eventually....

I'm so very addicted to chickens.

I finally picked out the next six from the coop that I'm going to rehome/sell. I have a Wheaten game that hasn't laid an egg in eons so it's gone, my splash polish has quit laying, I have a beardless, muffless blue wheaten EE roo that's gonna go and then my over two year old leghorn that lays HUGE white eggs, but she only gives me two to three a week, then I have a GC Marans and a Black Star that I'm ready to let go of... they only lay about two each week also.

So that gives me room for five more.... (the roo is a juvie and doesn't count right?)

Grant has his chest tubes out and apparently didn't have a total meltdown freak out. This is the child who my DH, who has multiple black belts, has to restrain, then the nurses pin various limbs to try to check him out if he has a meltdown in the ER. He's not quite 8 and it's a mess to get him to deal with the ER. They now just pin him, give him propofol (sp?) to knock him out so they can actually look at him. He's fun.....

Home tomorrow maybe, if not, they want to keep him the weekend, so he'd come home Monday. More because of the meltdown issue, easier to keep him over the weekend than send him home and have a problem, then an ER trip.

The Barred Buff Rockshires are ADORABLE. I'd help! When I get time.

Oh, I'm praying for Grant. And you. Sarah is exactly the same way when she has to go to ER or have blood drawn and the SPECT scan (bent two catheters and WHY didn't they just try a leg vein???) was a nightmare. She's 7 too.

GF Oatmeal Pancakes*
Makes about a dozen 4 inch pancakes

1 Cup Milk
½ cup to ¾ cup Rolled Oats
¾ Cup Oat Flour
2 TBLS Sugar (white or brown)
2 ½ TSP Baking Powder
½ TSP Salt
2 Beaten Egg Yolks (I used extra large)
1 TBLS Oil
2 Egg Whites

Heat milk until hot. Stir in oats and let sit for at least 5 minutes. Combine remaining dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then add the milk/oats mixture. Add egg yolks and oil. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form and fold into batter.

These brown nicely on a 375 degree grill.

These would make a hearty meal served with uncured turkey bacon and sautéed apples or applesauce. If served with apples I would add a little cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the dry ingredients when mixing batter. They are light and yummy.

Grant is FINE if he's healthy for any work, he holds his arm out for vaccines. But ugh, if he's sick, he gets tired. Then in the ER, it's too bright, too loud and he's too tired, so we have an epic meltdown from hell. Which is why despite him being sick all weekend and not improving, I didn't take him to the ER, or then the other night. Wasn't worth the meltdown, which can't be any good for his very sick system. It's in Grant's file to NOT try an arm vein in the ER, they will not get a catheter in to start with. That's with DH and 4+ nurses holding him down. Leg vein, DH can pin his arms down easier and lock one leg down, then one nurse holds that foot, and two nurses hold the leg for the IV. Which works more/less. Now, to actually DO anything to him, break out the happy drugs so he's in sleepy land. This is the child who you swear is being beaten in the exam room to just look at him. He's ALWAYS done this, never had a bad experience to start with.

So I'm a rotten mother. Then again, the pedi who I personally really like and has been very good so far, thought he was mostly clear Monday, just had walking pnemonia started because of the other bugs, no big deal, so sent him home on new drugs. Then he was sick enough, he was sent straight to NICU, so it wasn't too busy for his mind. Was it Monday? It's been one of those weeks, I forget my days now.

I'm going to remember the leg thing and the happy drug thing in case Sarah needs it. With the SPECT scan this summer there were 5 of us holding her, but she is strong and those people just wouldn't take me seriously enough about her strength. Her meltdowns have been legendary, but lithium has helped very much. Nothing works for the hyperactivity (ADHD) but at least the tantruming is better. Fewer and shorter. I only had to pick her up from school once this school year. They only call me if it lasts more than an hour or she starts hurting herself. She's much better since last spring.
