Gotta have treats!

What is a good age to start with treats? Mine are only a week old, but have grown so fast. What is a good treat to give a 1 week old? And, how do I know if they are eating too much. Can you feed chicks too much? I fill the feeder twice a day. Any advice would be really helpful.
~Thanks!

We started all of ours out on day one with plain yogurt and hard boiled egg. The yogurt they didn't really like but ate a bit of. The egg they went bonkers over and it really helps them to stay strong so they are not getting sick from shipping stress. Up until 2 weeks old that was all I fed them other than their crumbles. Now we are branching out into other soft foods.

I am going to go to home depot and see if I can get some small grain sand. They are doing so well I don't want to cause problems because I add the wrong thing so I have been very hesitant to add any grit until I was sure what to get.

At that age they should only get soft treats...hard boiled egg, plain yogurt with some of their crumbles on top. They don't need grit with soft stuff. They won't eat too much. They seem to know when they have had enough. Limit the treats if u see they aren't eating their crumbles. Just some info I have gained since getting my baby chicks! Good luck!

I agree soft treats for 1 week olds. Mine will be three weeks on Tuesday and boy they are eying the door and wanting to get out into the run, but I want to make sure they have grit before they go outside so if they eat something that they need to crush up more then will have the grit to help them.

Mine 6 chicks are 5 weeks old and have yet to get any treats. Am I bad? LOL They haven't really had grit I guess, they have been outside a few times but its not all that warm yet so we haven't really brought them out. They get grit from pecking the ground right? If they peck the ground, is that enough grit for them to have treats? Reading this, I see fruits is a good starter choice...yes? Thanks!

New to raising chicks... the chicks are about 3 weeks old now (bought them 2 weeks ago, so it's a best guess) and I have been giving then worms, grubs (which they all fight over!) and grass clippings (love them). Gave them a hard boiled egg last night, and some finely chopped lettuce. Are they old enough at this point to get other kitchen scraps as well? And do I need to chop everything up finely? Most of the birds are already feathered out and getting huge.

Thanks!
