Gotta have treats!

I have read that chickens like mealworms, so I bought two thousand to start breeding them for when my 2 week old chicks get older. Today I was wondering, if they saw a worm would they know what to do with it? So I offered a couple. LOOK OUT!!

Hysterical.....they look up at me and have yogurt all over their little faces!!!! Their 2nd favorite is yogurt and broccoli...

They are soo funny - mine were like that with apples. I have one that is having a great time with these Cicadas(she is 6 weeks)! I cannot believe she eats them - they're huge!

We finally found a place to get sand to use as grit since they are still too small to go out in the pen for very long and I gave them a handful of grass clippings. They weren't sure what to do with them at first but once they figured out it was something they could play with they began chasing each other around with the grass. Not sure if they will eat any of it but they really liked just being able to play with it.

I swear if I knew having peeps was this much fun I would have got them years ago!!

It's just great to see how they react to new things they r introduced to. Too funny!

Yeah I know what you mean. It's so fun to find out what they like. I know last night my son and I were hanging out in the coop and they were climbing all over us and just playing. Tomorrow I think on top of their regular feed I will try to give them the ends of a tomato cut up small and see if they like it. I am trying to approach it from the same point of view I did with my son when he was young. If you want them to eat a wide variety of food then you need to expose them to it when they are younger so they don't think you're crazy when you try to get them to eat it and they are older.

LOL...yeah really! I do treats about every other day as long as they r still eating their crumbles. Today was a non-treat day, but I put 2 smaller feeders with their crumbles mushy and they acted like they do when I let crickets loose in with them!! I was thinking, u dummies...it's just ur food wet!

They pounced on it like they hadn't ate for a week! Funny little fuzzybutts!

Yeah sometimes if we just hold their crumbles they think we are giving them something amazing and they all swarm at it. So far I have been giving them boiled egg every night but I am trying to think of things they might be able to have in the morning too. Not worried that they won't eat their crumbles because they go right from the treats back to eating the crumbles. I have a large free feeder and they eat off and on all day. The other thing I was thinking of trying was oatmeal. My sister gives her hens oatmeal and they go absolutely batty over it. But then again I don't want to give too many things too quickly and possibly cause them to get sick. It's awfully hard to be not give them treats though. These chickens are going to be so totally spoiled by the time they are six weeks old it won't be funny lol. Unless of course you are another chicken person and then you should understand.

I COMPLETELY understand! Mine love oats! It's like crack for chickens!

I have 2 frisbee's that I put their treats on and last night was oatmeal night...sounded like a thunderstorm in my basemest as 29 little peckers went after those oats.
