Granny's gone and done it again

I do my best to keep those chicks heads above water but that one was just as determined to get it a drink of that hot bath water.   How are these  chicks knowing they need to get the water without being shown ?   Makes me wonder if all of us dipping them is even necessary.  I just always have these are beating me to it.
bet the last 3 dont hatch.  I am tempted to try that Isa / polish. I really wanted to see that

I rarely do, unless they seem to be having trouble.

Put him on a table top and use a head collar to help keep him still. He'll learn with practice.

what is a head collar ?  sorry , just seen this. Sometimes those last posts hide.

It's not like a muzzle, because they can still open their mouths. But it controls their head, like when walking. I used one on my last big lab, Gunner.

every time you talk about an angel .
Ol mare, can you explain an maybe a pic ?

Confused here. Were you talking to camping about dog grooming?

never mind! camping just beat me too it. Head halter would be good for him, but CB cannot jerk the lead or it can hurt pup

yup, she told me to use a head collar and I THINK I have one. Will be a mission to find as it belonged to my dog in Mi. LOL

hens will give you better results.
You can get away with using a
smaller cock bird for a breeder
but he should have good type.
Back
:
The back should be very
short. For me, the i
deal length of
back would
give me just enough
space to
sit a golf ball right
between the base of the neck and
the base of the tail. You don't
want anymore length in the back
than that. You
also
don't want to
go too extreme and wind up with no
back at all or
too much back
.
Blue
:
What makes the
BLRW
so
striking is the color
contrast. The
beautiful color and
pattern is
difficult to achieve,
e
specially
when dealing with the Andalusian
B
lue
G
ene
(the gene in the BLRW
that makes the lacing blue
)
Let’s
talk
briefl
y
about
t
he
confusing
Andalusian Blue Gene
.
If you
put together
a breeding pen
using a Blue Laced male and a Blue
Laced female you will get chicks
that are blue, black
,
and splash.
Splash Laced birds h
ave lacing
that is very
light blue
-
white
with
black
-
blue speck
s on the tail
feathers.
T
he Black Laced chicks will have
very thick lacing
.
We are looking
for
thin lacing
to make
a good
BLRW.
If you use blue, black
,
and splash
colored birds in your breeding
program, you will get
various
percents of
blue, black
,
and
splash ch
icks. The goal is to
produce blue chicks
with a
consistent
shade of blue
. If you
use only blue birds,
t
hat will
cu
t
down the numbe
r o
f chicks you
rais
e
because
the number of blue
chicks will be
at
50%
.
T
his chart
explains the different
chick
combinations you will get
based on t
he color of lacing the
parents have
in
your breeding pens.
I personally only breed
Blue to
Blue, however you can use a Black
Laced Red on a Splash Laced Red
and get all Blue chicks
, but the
blue will vary in shade from bird to
bird
. T
he German
Master
B
reeders of BLRW
s
only breed
blue to blue, but it is up to each
individual to breed their birds the
way they feel is best for their
program.
If the shade of blue
begins to get too light
after a few
years
, I will breed them
to a
Black

Sigh. The joys of home ownership....

So somewhere along the way someone screwed something up very badly. I went to the bathroom last night (nothing crazy just had to pee!) and the toilet clogged. Huh. That's interesting. Call hubs to help plunge it and somehow the seal goes on the toilet. Great. Pee water pee water everywhere. So he ends up taking out the toilet so he can look at the lines. Well. The line itself isn't draining....(it eventually went down, very slowly).

Order from hubs. Check the other toilet. Flush it once, okay it went down. Second flush....nope. Second shower - not even draining.

Crap. We were going to move the chickens over today but I have the feeling he's going to be a little busy exorcising the plumbing demons.

It's now ten to six am. I'm awake. I gotta pee....crumbs! May just head over to the other house super early for some cleaning (and to use the bathroom!)

Ugh.

Oh yikes -- what a disaster! Nothing came up in the inspection? Sounds like a bit of a mess on your hands.....hope it's able to be straightened out ASAP.

Hey I posted !! Bout to go through withdrawals . Hope its fixed . anyway the chick is very light in color. Its still wet but looks blond/silver. I never thought the same breed would look so different. It was NOT a sticky chick that I can tell. 3 more eggs and no pips.

Wishing, How close are your neighbors ? house ways . I am glad you went to the memorial . I just cant imagine.

Twist, I gave you a hard time about giving me up for Lent when I should of been honored. After all, You are supposed to give up something precious to you.

BUT, the thought of not talking to you for that long didnt sit well with me. Im sorry .
Are you talking about BLRW -- there are some very distinct differences in chick down and adult feathering depending on the breeding practices used in production -- breeding BLRW to BLRW yeilds blue laced, black laced and splash variety birds --- the three types look a bit different as chicks and very different as adults, the lightest chicks I *think* are the splash, but couldn't swear to it

Quote: No, I saw camping's post. Was confused because you were asking Ol Mare for a pic and I thought I missed something else! Wouldn't be the first time I've missed something!!

I might as well be reading french.
I thought you were writing a poem at first, the way it printed out. I will try to find info about blue/black/splash (bbs). It is incomplete dominance or something. Have to look it up.

If I disappear it's because sis is coming over and we're going to check on her house. There's been flooding and it's right near a creek.
