Solar disinfection -tip how to use the hot summer sun for the benefit of your chickens
A lot of parasites use the ground as a intermediate medium in between infection of your flock. Fungi, bacteria , worms, coci, and viruses including the dreaded MDV .
You can eliminate this parasites from your coop and run by a simple act. (That could be only if you have the time, hot sun and patience!) The method is called solar desinfectio. The principal is very easy, you cover your coop floor and your run with a transparent polyethylene sheets ( plastic) put on it some stone or bagg full with sand for fixing it on the ground, and live it in the sun for a week or more.
The green house effect that occur under the plastic sheet will rase the temp to a degree that will kill almost everything in the top soil!
In Israel the farmers use that method on entire fields!
It is very recommended when you change flocks, after you took out the first, and before entering the second.
