and yet it stalked and killed your parakeet. I am NOT a cat person. I don't want dead chipmunks brought to the door as presents. A gift card would be so much more sanitary.

That's the truth. That particular cat was a birder, rather than a mouser. I have vivid memories of the barn swallows dive bombing him and pecking his head! Sad thing was, none of the farm cats were ever in the house. The one time my mom let two of them in (the mouser and the birder) to feed some treats was the same time I chose to clean my parakeet's cage. I was horrified when I walked in the kitchen and saw the mouser eating some liver. Put her out right away, but it was too late for poor Lou. Darned birder got him before I even knew he was in. Found Lou's little blue parakeet body under the counter. Never did find his head.
