I know your punishing him, Camping. When is his bday? Gs bday was 8/23 and parents waited a year to start school. Boys are just not as mature as girls.

Quote: Diagnosed with what? We've checked his ears and tested his hearing. Speech lady didn't mention further hearing concerns.
My guy, for example, had articulation problems... low muscle tone around mouth (they asked if he mouthed toys as a boy... no) and he had social pragmatics delay (all the cues that makes language social... eye contact, turn taking, initiating and maintaining conversation...) His vocabulary was above age as was his comprehension. So information was getting in, he understood it, but could not make himself understood (very garbled words). The social pragmatics stuff we worked on at home and he still works at it, understands what he needs to do to "fake it."

I have a friend whose son started out at 3 yrs with a language delay... by 5 yrs, diagnosis was pervasive developmental delay. A neighbor's son had speech in 2nd and 3rg grade... articulation only... he had a lisp... fixed with practice exercises. 4 yr old kid in speech class got diagnosed with Aspergers. Another had a hearing problem, ears worked fine but brain was not processing info properly... caused a sort of speech dyslexia.

Just wondering if they have determined the cause of Bubba's delay. It's probably simple mechanical articulation... got to get the right muscles moving the right way.

Bubba sounds like a hoot! Had to jump off the chair!

In my world, 4 is too young for full time school. Is Pre K 5 days a week, all day? Here, Pre K is new, and it is for kids 5 yrs or almost 5 who are not quite ready for K. Younger kids go to preschool. They raised the eligibility age for K. Have to be 5 by Sept 1st. Neither of mine would have made the cut! But they did fine, and I was a parent volunteer, so I kept an eye on things too.
