Thanks mutt, that's more of what I mean. Current pup is spayed. Having new pup unfixed (just until it happens!) might be helpful.

DH is talking about this one a bit more. I'm keeping my mouth shut. But at one point I mentioned weekend plans and he said "but what if we have that dog?" So I feel like this may be happening.

Our recent dog history: got a "free to good home" yellow lab as newly weds. He was 1, not fixed, not house trained, only knew how to "shake." Monster.

He moved with us through two camps and three states. Perfect camp pup. When he was 8 he went for a romp in the woods and never came back. We were DEVASTATED. Searched shelters, as recently as a few months ago.

We couldn't face a summer without a pup, so we got Jewel the Weimrador. Free to good home, 6 weeks old.

Right after Jewel turned 2 we lost Dolly, my cavalier. She was only five. I was heartbroken. Jewel lost her mind, started growling at people, having accidents, etc. luckily I convinced DH to keep going and she came out fine after she grieved.

SO since it was MY dog that does it was MY turn to pick a new one. But it was camp time, so DH said "Jewel is your dog now." I bought her a pink collar and painted her toenails.

And that's why DH gets all the say in this one. It's his replacement camp buddy. Jewel likes DH, but she loves me more. She's an introvert.

Oh I am sorry for all your losses!!

Dogs really get intertwined in our hearts.

Yes, if the dog isn't fixed, they find it easy to wander off and never return.

got one over here you can have.

took Lily for a walk walked the whole back yard and surprisingly she walked really good ! she has been taught to walk leash. we were out there for a while she did nothing. went in via the back gate, took leash of and she played with the others for a while , nothing . came in and she headed straight to the front room and peed a ton !

The older lab was fixed, and had been for a long time. We think he was picked up or shot. We're extremely rural and surrounded by cattle, so it's hard to say.

Did you see my post on our current prospect? (Seven, not neutered, trained duck retriever, never been in a house, etc.) I think he'll be fine. DH said that getting the pup neutered would happen first thing, so I'm just going to have to walk him everyday til there's nothing left if I want to scare the coyote. :lau

So she apparently knows how to "hold it." ;)

I wanted a dog to keep the boogyman away. roam outside for coons, ect..... all she wants is to eat my chickens. and if i do rehome her im pretty sure i would have a fight on my hands trying a different dog. my cat smacked hell out of her when we were walking . she laid down and cried.

Oh that is awful!

Labs make wonderful pets. Real love hounds. I had a black lab many years ago. Wow was he a real sweet heart.

He's not house trained?

Puppies are hard enough, older dogs can be difficult. Although nuetered dogs seem to pee less....
