I am looking for a realistic vet. I don't think my current one is only out for money or cheating, but his idea of what's reasonable doesn't match mine. Dog had a tooth cleaning, and he told me she had a dead tooth. I expected he had yanked it and there would be a charge. Nooooo. Oh, we don't pull them anymore. You need to schedule a root canal. I laughed (maybe slightly hysterically) and said that the dog could get in line behind hub's new crown, and 2 mouthfuls of braces. 3 years later, the dog is fine, dead tooth is fine, hubs needs another crown and boy#1 is getting his braces off this month! Same dog ruptured her ACL. Apparently my only option was a $4000 reconstructive surgery where the top of the femur would be cut off and turned around. My hubs has a complete PCL rupture and rehabbed without surgery. I asked about rehabbing without surgery. Vet just shrugged. I did online research and that surgery on a dog has pretty high failure rate. We rehabbed at home. She was back running in less than a year.
