I guess all went as it was supposed to with my daughter. expected around 8 days in the hospital. she said she is in a lot of pain but i doubt she will even remember talking to me.  her words were very thick and had to understand . I am so glad this will be over for her soon. the 2 silkies in the house are very quiet. i keep forgetting they are here. they are sleeping a lot. the babys outside are well, not sure what they are. the woman told it right when she said they are all colors of the rainbow but all but one have 5 toes. no fluffy or black skin. the one without the 5th toe almost looks guinea with those orange feet and beak. I had to take medicine today after that show in the barn. it hasnt helped any.  KATHY, thank you for all your help.  I gave it my best shot but i guess that wasnt enough. hopefully the next egg that i put in on the 28th will bring better news. it was not shipped and is in the new incubator and that temp is showing 100.2 I guess i will just keep the older one plugged in and wait til the 18th day before i put it over there for lock down. I dont know if i should up the temp for that or not. I have an egg every other day from my seramas in the new bator. I havent candled them except for the one  that went in on the 28th.

No need to up temp just humidity. But not too high or they'll drown. Just 60-65% humidity for lockdown. Good luck! Prayers sent for you and your daughter!

Take it easy on that foot Granny it's never going to heal. Saying a prayer for your daughter and you. Sorry about the little peep hope the other eggs do better. Hope the one that got away is there on the morning.
thank you suzierd, every thing i have this morning is hurting. it even hurt to push the on button. LOL I remember thinking in the barn as i was bending at the knee, should i be doing this? but i was down before i could even finish the thought. I just cant get passed this,I am 18 yrs. old thing. obviously the only thing that hasnt matured is my mind. the chicks in the barn are very wild. they have wing feathers and use them. they are going to be hard to settle . they have never even been fed by a human til yesterday. they acted like they were starved to death and the water they drank ! you should of seen it .was pitiful. then i end up doing exactly what she was by letting that one get away from me. I was able to talk to my daughter this morning. seems as if the problem was not the chrones but scar tissue causing a blockage from last surgery. they still did the same thing though. took it out and resected it . the silkies are , i think, too quiet. they are eating and drinking fine but not very active.

Granny, I'm so glad you daughter's surgery went well - even if it wasn't what they had originally thought. Prayers for her speedy recovery. So sorry about your baby chick. I hope you are able to work with your new birds enough to tame them a bit.

I TOTALLY understand about doing something then realizing the consequences the next day. It's just not fair when your mind is willing but your body won't cooperate!

Aren't Silkies quieter than some of the other breeds? I have a friend here who has some and she says they are pretty quiet. Those of us with close neighbors have to worry about noise.

mrsc, thank you. my daughters surgery was the same if it had been the crones but good news it was scar tissue, I think ? wont it just come back again? I popped my shoulder out yesterday but i was able to put it back this morning and it is feeling better now. would you believe i have gravel bruises on my tush? LOL little purple spots all over. hahaa The silkies I got yesterday, I keep forgetting they are in the house. I was worried they may be sick but they are not. very quiet little guys/girls? I have had a ton of babys but these i just want to squeeze. so soft and laid back. yes, I would put them in top place for city birds.

So sorry about your Serama eggs. I had hopes for that one last chick. Everything I have read says that those tiny eggs and shipping just don't mix. I have one Silkie hen (black hatchery girl) and she is very clam and quiet, but also has a lot of chicken common sense, what with foraging and managing the other hens. Her crest is not so big that she can't see, so that probably helps a lot.

Glad your daughter is recovering and hope she feels better. Nothing worse than going through a procedure like that and have it not help the problem. As for you, I sure hope you take care and give that foot a chance to heal properly. I know what you mean about being 18 inside (although for me, it's 33. For some reason, that's the age when I felt myself.). I also notice, that as I get older, the ground seems much farther away. Getting down is no problem, but between my bum back and achy foot, getting up is an effort. You know what else I notice, cameras don't work so well anymore. Every picture taken of me is not me. It's some older woman. How'd she get in there?!

LOL, wishing4wings, you always manage to make me smile even when i dont want to. Yesterday I sure didnt want to. I was in a fowl (foul) mood. I wasnt nice on here or anywhere else for that matter. I guess my daughter was bothering me worse then i realized. I am too old to be doing dips in the gravel or any where else for that matter. my brain just dont realize it in time. The cats found the baby chick in the pole barn. I guess that is better then freezing or starving to death. I found one dead in there this morning . it had nothing in its crop. probably stressed from the move and never having feed. the rest seem to be doing well. no signs of illness. I gave them layer feed yesterday scattered on the floor til i could get their feed in the barn. today i filled up dog bowls with the correct feed and they love it !! never seen so many chicks fighting to take a bath.

your serama has a crest? do you have picture?

just talked to my daughter again. every time i call she is asking her nurse for something for pain and by how she sounds they are giving it.. she was talking away the silence . i started calling her name and after the 3rd. time calling very loudly I hear, "Im sorry " I said did you fall asleep? she said yes. i told her ok i will let you go so you can get some sleep and she tells me , I cant sleep in this hospital ! LOL Good night my little princess

My next and first one laid here at home, serama went in the new bator on the 28th. it has been running at 100.1 I believe friday will be lock down for it. it will go into the old bator where my last chick was that died. I havent turned it off or done anything to it. there is no mess in there because the one egg i hatched myself and all the shell went in the trash. I know for lock down the temp should be a bit lower so i dont know if i should mess with that or not. it is at 100.
