Several have/had pox, but she was the one I was giving fluids by tube and antibiotics. She spent the last several days in my bathroom. She wasn't my favorite of the sussex, but I did think her markings were the prettiest. I made this picture for her.

Eloise (on the right) is a totally lap chicken. But I think she has too much white. And the grown hens (Evelyn, Edith, Eileen) don't have enough white, and they're not friendly either. Oh well.

Apparently my father-in-law is trying to give us some of his juvenile silkies for Christmas? So we'll be driving 15-16 hours with chickens? Wouldn't be the craziest thing we've ever done. :lau

hahahaa, sounds like fun to me. are they babys ? might want to pick up some sav-a-chick for the trip. the 2 silkies i have here are turning into eating machines. all day !! and most the night too. they are growing fast. If that serama does hatch i think these might be too big for it.

ya, i missed the part that said they were juvies. lol I dont know the "standard" on these chickens but for personal preference I would take the one with more white. it just makes them POP.

I just want to say to all the back yard members I really appreciate and enjoy talking with all of you every day. It is so very nice to have great friends that share my passion of chickens and listen to me moan and grown about all my woes. all of you truly make my day. It just occurred to me the guests that come to visit me , I have no way of knowing who you are. it just tells me a # of how many are viewing. I want to thank all of you as well. whether you come to learn or just to hear the crazy lady talk, no matter the reason. Thank you as well for stopping in. perhaps you will decide to join our family and throw your two cents in for me.

I'm not sure what colors he has. I love my sussex, but I have a total weakness for splash chickens. My orpingtons are a mixed light/lavender splash. A hatchery not far from here has splash Cochin chicks right now, $3 each. I'm resisting... for now. ;)

Granny, it's you who brightens our day with your antics and sense of humor. I don't log on everyday, but when I do, I always check out your thread. Thank your for being who your are....a genuine asset to BYC.

LOL, you trying to make my head match my butt ? thank you. speaking of antics, my little silkie had poop stuck to his butt today so i wet a paper towel and was having quite the time trying to get it off. I got at least half but the rest just didnt want to cooperate. I heard the poor thing let out a squeal so i put him back under the light. all of a sudden the older silkie was going after his butt like no tomorrow. I pulled him back out and found the problem. I had pulled the fuzz off and there was a spot of blood there.

i ended up holding that thing for over an hr. with a paper towel against its little tail and to my surprise it started trilling in my hands ! it did that the whole time i held it. it was the sweetest sound. . I put it back in the cage and the other went after it again so i took that one out and held it for about 5 min. after it went back in all was well. I am thinking because of the time they were apart it may of been a pecking order thing thrown in there as well as the blood.
