I'm not sure what colors he has. I love my sussex, but I have a total weakness for splash chickens. My orpingtons are a mixed light/lavender splash. A hatchery not far from here has splash Cochin chicks right now, $3 each. I'm resisting... for now.

I would be all over that !! splash is awesome ! I want a LF cochin. i had the bantams and they were very pretty and friendly

Wonder if hawks really can get the pox! Don't know if the sussex coloring acts the same as mottled, but the white in mottled chickens increases as they age. 2 of my mottled Serama hens, that had just a few spots of white as pullets, are now almost 50% white after this year's molt. They look like different chickens!

LOL, you trying to make my head match my butt ? thank you. speaking of antics, my little silkie had poop stuck to his butt today so i wet a paper towel and was having quite the time trying to get it off. I got at least half but the rest just didnt want to cooperate. I heard the poor thing let out a squeal so i put him back under the light. all of a sudden the older silkie was going after his butt like no tomorrow. I pulled him back out and found the problem. I had pulled the fuzz off and there was a spot of blood there.

i ended up holding that thing for over an hr. with a paper towel against its little tail and to my surprise it started trilling in my hands ! it did that the whole time i held it. it was the sweetest sound. . I put it back in the cage and the other went after it again so i took that one out and held it for about 5 min. after it went back in all was well. I am thinking because of the time they were apart it may of been a pecking order thing thrown in there as well as the blood.

My little poodle X, Scooter, had a similar problem today, so I was dealing with poopy butt too.

Had to give him a half bath in the utility sink. Guess he needs another hair cut! NO MORE LONG HAIRED ANIMALS! EVER AGAIN!!!




Well, maybe just one. He only has semi-long hair.

that is a very nice looking cat. he looks pretty big. is he mixed with main coon? I have a Norwegian forest cat outside. he is a barn cat but he is very friendly and a great hunter. he caught a coon one time and brought it to me still alive. no thanks ! he got caught by a coyote once . it ripped the whole side of him off right down to bite marks in the bone. he dragged himself home like that. I panicked and called the first responders.

they came out ! Helped me stabilize him and get a hold of a vet. I had to scrub the wound 2 x a day and let it heal from the inside out. took about a month i guess. He sleeps on the roof now when it is nice out or in the dog house i made him with the escape hatch that sits by my back door. He dont like it in the house or he would be curled in my lap. the coyote didnt seem to bother him any . He dont like to be brushed so he looks a bit ragged but he is still up to his old tricks.

by the way, the cat (Binks) gets fed every day. I ran into another problem with the serama egg . I dont know if it is alive or not. thermometer was showing 10 degrees I didnt have. so the egg went in yesterday evening and has been at 87 degrees til now. not quite 24 hrs. of course thats why the others died. tested it with 3 thermometers when i set it up then relied on one. the wrong one of course. its now is at 102 on the digital and 98 on the plain one. I am going to keep it there and hope the temp is in between those 2 #s.

I want to go off subject for a bit. again. lol I met a person on facebook not long after my mom dies . so we have been talking for about 5 months. when she friended me i knew she had cancer. and it bothered me some but she was just someone i talk to on there right? wrong, oh so wrong. do any of you have people you have come to love with out ever seeing them in person? well, besides me i mean. LOL anyway , she wanted me to be friends with her daughter. now i know why. she wants me to give back to her daughter what she gave to me. an understanding ear. I learned today she is on a ventilator and is not expected to come off of it. I am very sad and upset over this. much more then i expected . I just cant believe the time has come and i never even got to hold her hand. what irks me the most is its not the cancer, she threw a blood clot to her lungs and the drs. cant do anything about it. sorry, I just felt like i needed to tell this. not trying to be depressing , guess i am looking for understanding.

So sorry to hear about your friend Granny. You can get to know people pretty well on social media by communicating with no face to face time. I have become vey close to a cousin I've never met in person. Like I said, she's a cousin so we have some things in common - like the same grandparents but which she doesn't remember because they passed before she was born.

Wishing4Wings your cat is a very handsome guy and quite the ham. Much like my Siegfreid! Spoiled rotten. He's old - 15 years - and apparently has some arthritis. DH got a small footstool and put beside my chair so he can climb up and get in my lap instead of jumping which he seems to have trouble doing. If I move it when vacuuming and don't put it back in the exact spot he yells at my hubby. So funny and it's apparent what he's yelling about. Our furred and feathered babies.

From what I can tell in the picture, Granny your cat looks like a big guy and quite the hunter.

The picture with your little chicks is the cutest thing. I never would have thought to pose them like that. LOL! A few years ago, my girls found a bunch of something they were all eating - I never figured out what - against the fence and I got a picture of all 7 of them lined up with not much showing but their fluffy butts. Used that picture for my Christmas card - no if's, and's or butt's; we wish you the merriest Christmas. Hubby didn't think it was too politically correct but I did. LOL

that will make a great Christmas card !! never thought of that. hmmm.... the picture, the more i think about it, i should of had the bigger chick turned the other way. thank you for speaking of my friend. it was like i got slapped in the face and had no idea what direction it came from.
