I took Ben out without the e-collar this morning. The birds were all penned. With no birds around he romped with Jewel and peed on all the things. As soon as I opened the coop door and the birds left me, he came and heeled by himself. He didn't leave my side unless they were FAR away. And no corrections. When we came in he went straight to the door, but I waited to watch the chickens. I faced the door, chickens behind me, and watched him. The birds trotted away and Ben just watched me the whole time. He didn't even put his ears up.

I tried to put him in the backyard without me a few days ago, to rest how he would do without me watching. But he wouldn't even go through the door unless I went all the way out and then called him. Because chickens are scary.

Like I don't have enough to do I guess we are going to butcher some hogs now. Up to 3 for sure so far. Homemade sausage nummers thick cut pork chops, roasts, side pork, maybe bacon if I have the time, corned pork/up here they call is salt pork which isn't right. You use the meaty (sort of ) boney scraps and brine it for a number of weeks, then boil it and eat.

instead of fudge..i want porkchops

from what I read she's pretty broken down and hasn't been ridden in years.

and I did remember what TB was after a while had to run through all the chicken breed and then codes for family first.

A TB is in the spirit the heart of the beast. She hasnt been rode in years because there has been no buck strong enough to handle her. She is a wild creature with no use for ponys. And that just proves my point ..

I will admit I had that opinion before (and for the first few months after, lol) DD chose Aero........growing up where/how I did a "good horse" was a qh, ranch pony, etc....so much of the nutter is purely a product of how they are managed. Aero came to us at 3 years old, fresh off the track, grained and run out of her mind and with no idea how to be, well, a horse.....no basic foundation to understand what was now being asked of her....and none of that was because of her breed, it was due to how she had been "trained" from far too early of an age.

SO glad it cleared, what a lovely boy!

Thanks mare! He sure is but then again I am biased :hide

I totally agree that it's not the breed at all. It is how they are started in life, how they are taught those things. Harry had a full year off when he finished racing. Just to get the food out of him and to learn to be a horse again. It was starting from the beginning with him when he came back into work but that's a much firmer foundation than the race life he had. We don't do anything fancy just enjoy each other and have for the last 12 years.

SO I got to thinking about all you ladies "suggesting" us roo's have out psa tested. And I am wondering how many of you get your pap smears and mammograms done as often as you should???? That's how they discovered mom's cancer. She never had an actual lump just a really sore area. It turned out to be lymph cancer she beat it once but then came back in her stomach area and not so lucky the 2nd time. My point being she wouldn't have found it with out the tests.
