Funny how memories work. My grandma would absolutely kill herself for a glorious Norman Rockwell Christmas dinner. Ham AND turkey, all the fixings, all the desserts, on and on. When I married and wanted to start my own traditions, I started doing meat pies at Christmas. So all the work of the meal, and my favorite part was the thing she made just to hold us over. Poor sweet thing.

We always did Swedish meatballs Christmas Eve that was the biggie in our family . then midnite mass. Our church here used to do a nice one and then before mass was ended they would turn off all the lights and sing silent night in german and then English and turn the light on the trees and around the 100 year old alter and side alters.

Mom used to boil the turkey carcass and then make gumbo. That was nice.

She just hates cooking.

Still not the same in my book and then some one else has to work that day.    Maybe I am just old fashioned.  Holiday's were for family and friends and meals were home made and made with love. 

not the same but if your not able to stand in the kitchen for 2 days It sure sounds nice to me. Bought a turkey dinner once from a krogers and it was supposed to be cooked . it wasnt even cleaned . had eggs in it I kept cooking and cooking with a house full of family and guests and my oven had went out.

yep brings tears to my eyes every year. Last year they added spainish/mexican and Not on person sang including the ones in the pew in front of me in church.

and mashed taters a couple types of veggies and jello salads and allthe fixens , ANd the gravy with mushrooms and OMG nummers. Meatballs have veal, pork, beef, mashed taters and seasonings mixed together. and LEFSE if we were lucky.
