Thanks!  They are fun to watch.  I sure hope granny hatches those Seramas.  That incubator is amazing and I have a good feeling about it.

Congratulations!!!  That is one precious egg.  Who do you think was responsible?  Hope the others get the hint real soon.

Very happy for you!  I saw it and it looks fantastic.  So very generous of Jesse. He deserves some kind of BYC award.  There must be something we can do.  Can we nominate him for  a friend badge?  When do they do that?

I'm thinking it was one of the whites. The one in the middle has a very red comb. They all spent quite a bit of time scratching around in the hay, and after I fluffed up the "nest" on the coop floor and added an enticing nest box, someone went back and dug out another nest twice as deep. Ornery girls.

But that australorp pullet sure is looking ready, isn't she? :D :D

looks like all your hens are redding up ! it wont be long before you have more then you will want to eat. morning all. not much sleep for me again. I just cant shake this headache. 3 weeks now. and yes, before the kids came. hahaa wonder if its the dust. 2 vacuums and both with broken belts and none to be had. with all these children the crap is getting pretty deep. dd tried to sweep but that dont help and i have over 2000 square ft. of carpet. enough fussing ! tom and myself have plans to go somewhere today with no thought of where except out. Its very cold out and now i dont know what to do. he wants out of the house for a bit. maybe just breakfast. I am not taking him grocery shopping neither one of us is up for that. I will leave that to the cook. I am excited about the bator and have no other thoughts at this point. my bedroom went from 64-70 degrees last night so i am guessing thats a no-no. looks like it will have to be in the kitchen.

I am hiding all the step-stools and any thing else they can climb on. I will remind them loudly and often and if i see one of them up there i will let them know about it pretty quick !I have 3 thermometers and thinking of buying a new one. expect me to be a nervous wreck for the next month.

Do you have carbon monoxide detectors? My brother in law had a lingering headache and it was a faulty furnace leaking carbon monoxide.

An egg already! Covered in poop. :rant It's a little smaller and lighter; could be a sussex egg. That would make my day! I had to wash it, so I guess I need to eat it for breakfast. :D

X 2 - provided you don't have electric heat, of course, lol. We had a similar issue in our office last winter where I was just always feeling "off" and had near constant headaches, etc -- well, the Weatherization crew was using our building for a training day with some other agencies who had come down to learn about gas furnaces and, what do you know, they discovered that we had an issue with the furnace. The setup of our office is such that the furnace sits in a closet right behind my desk in my work room, so I was getting the brunt of the carbon monoxide which was at a level enough to cause issues but not be "life endangering" yet.

I beg to differ rancher , I have had tons of 100%. fails that is, but it was 100%. we got a dusting of snow. I have gravel drive so no sweeping or anything here. couple winters ago we got stuck in the house literally for 10 days. finally busted out the back door. but still couldnt get in the van or out anywhere. neighbors finally noticed and came got us out.

Well good garden o' peas! You need to get a snow blower. Part of my drive is gravel too. I just jacked up the front "skies" so it goes just above the gravel. I do my lawn too. Otherwise I'd never get the chickens. I got the biggest could afford (charge

) and an electric start. A snow blower is a necessity not a luxury. At least for me. Now in your case you might want to hit up a neighbor to come over and do the basics so you can get out at least.

Granny, is there a closet big enough to run the incubator? Would have fewer fluctuations in there. Or could you wrap it in a big comforter? (except air holes) As much moving and arranging as the hens did last year, leaving the eggs for a little while each day, I can't imagine that yours would be damaged by cooling such a little bit. I really think the air cells are fragile in those tiny eggs and cause hatching problems. Ours showed some air cell damage just from my son carrying them roughly when collecting, so either it happened when he ran wildly down from up at the coop, or they were defective to begin with.

Hope you and your hubby had a peaceful, relaxing morning away from the rugrats. Heed the carbon monoxide warnings. Scary thought. You may be more sensitive than others who don't have headaches.

2 more days til the incubator comes!

Don't stress yourself over temps with so many thermometers. They won't read the same anyhow. At most use two and average them out.

This reminds me. We have friends had this problem. Even the dog was sick. They had to stay in a hotel for two days.
They were selling their house..

Granny do you wear glasses? It might be time for an upgrade. Even if the glasses are for reading you may need new ones.
