My dogs have always had free choice of food I try to keep the 8 quart kettle filled. Never had a fat springer. Occasionaly they have an empty "bowl" but then one of then will push it around until I trip over it and fill it for them.

5 cups a day for these 3. usally a little left over for the cats to play with all night long swatting it around the kitchen. they also have 24/7 . they are very fat though...

Hi Mare, I'm a 2x a day feeder for my birds also. They have full access to feed at any time in the coops, but I feed them fermented feed in the morning & a hour before they go to roost. As it gets colder, I'm sure it will help them stay warmer thru the night.

Agreed - SO very sorry about Emily, @campingshaws but relieved to say it does not sound or look like Ben was at all involved. Hopefully you can put the flock on lockdown and ID/address your predator.
