Well if I hatch RIGHT NOW then I can sell started pullets in the spring, and that's just good business. ;) Maybe I'll just go get some eggs from the lady up the road... She's got leghorns and RIR all running around together. Mixed chicks don't go high, but mixed pullets do because eggs is eggs. :D

Camping if she has RIR Roos over her white chickens, you'll have sex link chicks, some of the best egg layers

this is why I do the opposite of most people, I would sooner grow out over winter and then I am ready in the spring and summer. I learned that I can kick myself in the butt not having availability over spring and summer and then by the time I can ship chicks it gets too cold and the need is low too.

if i buy babies in the fall its because its a great deal I cant pass up. it cost too much to heat them.

She's got everything running around with everything. Maybe I should go in the sexlink business?

I cant figure out who is laying green eggs. The one I thought it was is broody. I have some I bought last fall(for a dollar) that im not sure of what they are except big and looks like black copper marens .

We're working on a plan where we sell the camp layers in late summer (when camp is finished) and while the market is still decent, then I'll hatch our new layers in the fall and winter them. It's easier to feed freeloading chicks. I have bad luck with winter layers.

Of course, this is only my second winter with chickens... :hide But I'm an old soul. I think I'm a reincarnated farming ancestor.

you really are Camping. an old soul. I have been lucky with eggs through the winters. except for needing to gather them 3-4 times a day ..
