Oh my goodness. So I looked at this thread because there are so many replies. I started with page one and ended up reading two hundred or so replies. Granny, you are hilarious. I really would enjoy reading the whole thing!

No flavor hu? My hands are so weak now i wondered if it is easier to skin then pluck ? That would probably only work for the meat birds. I remember having fried chicken at my grandmas a lot of times and they werent store bought. they were the roosters and old hens. It was always tender and very good. What happened? STORY TIME !!! I was at my great aunts house when we lived in Ky. and she had a little picket fence around her garden. the adults were sitting in the kitchen when my aunt hollers ,MY best laying hen is stuck in the fence, shes gonna hang herself ! she tells her boy to go get it down he goes out there, lifts it off the fence and says, aw ma, this aint your best one . and then he put it back . I didnt understand this so later i did ask, why did he put it back ? I was told, He wanted some fried chicken child.
When I skin, I only skin the breast and legs. Then I put the rest of the chicken in the "chicken's" private crock pot. Cook it intil done, let cool and serve it to the chickens. I don't even gut them first. They are off feed for over 24 hours, so no poop in them.

eewwww theres no poop left? I always have a horrible guilt trip when i have to slay them. I give them tons to eat first. hahaa I know yr not supposed to but i am careful when i open them to take the crop first . Never did find the lungs.

It just dawned on me, You cook for chickens ?
I wont even cook for my family much less chickens. hahaaaa I dont care if its free or not. If microwave dinners are good enough for my family then they are good enough for the chickens. I bet my chickens have high cholesterol from the left over junk we eat. Shoot, could be the words first glow in the dark eggs.
