Got the week olds moved out, got the cooler washed and sanitized. Soaking the grates and rubber mat. Humidity should be no trouble this time! :/

Any way you hatch eggs is fun, just jump on. The very worst thing that could happen is that nothing hatches. Start saving a few EE eggs to go in the batoryou all know after reading about all the trials and tribulations of hatching/incubating you have begining to think either hatchery or hen-a-bator is the way to go.
Linda is going to gone & done itOkay, gotta get going. I want first pic for my sisters silkies... Think I will hold off and get my birds from the mom and pop if temptation doesn't hit hard. See you all later. Xoxoxo love you.
If her feed store has Silkies I bet my last dollar she will be bringing a couple home
By a week mine are usually on shavings unless I still have puppy potty pads left. I also use contractors sand to raise chicks on. My 3 new chicks have been on sand since day one. The only ones I have a problem with is the Silkie chicks with the feathered feet. They like to get little sandy poop balls cover their toenails. Have to watch for that & take those off.Should I use shavings on the baby honas? One week old today. They're already super messy. Maybe shavings with the rubber shelf liner on top?

X2Granny you are bound to have a few issues until you get this new bator totally figured out it is only your second hatch out of it.
Great job Twist! Don't be cussing us out though if you need glasseseye appointment at 10 am next weds.

ah but you see I am pretty much here (at motel) 24 /7 so there would be no getting away. And I am sure the a bunch of peeping chicks would drive the dogs over the edge. HUMMM that may be a point in favor![]()
it keeps them out of trouble. My star sits for hours on end watching them.
I would be afraid that my dogs would think "isn't that nice of dad to set out a buffet of peeps for us to snack on" I would need an up-high-a-bator
Oh no enola, that had to be horrible ~ so sad

When I was hatching, Mike used to call the chicks the babies. He would ask Sugar did she want to see the babies everytime I took some out of the hatcher. I had the incubator in my animal room. We kept the door shut when we weren't in the house. Mike went to town one day and forgot to shut the door. Sugar knocked the hatcher off of the table.
I came home to 40+ massacred chicks.......
Sugar tried to take unhatched chicks out of the hatcher all by herself.....

Last pip just hatched #9 . at least he isnt black.. chipmunk patterned. Looks like little Twist but it was a very light colored tan egg. There could be more pips but I dont see them.
