Officially down to "just" 20 hens and 1 rooster in the flock - met up with the guy who wanted a leghorn this morning. Funny thing was that while we were doing the exchange and visiting a bit a guy came out of the little convenience store we chose to meet at, walked over and said, "Who has the chickens for sale?" -- turns out he is looking for some layers. Not quite ready to part with all my girls just yet, but I took his name and number and told him that when I was ready to pull the trigger I'd let him know. Couldn't talk either one of them into taking the roo, but I think I've got him sold now as the same guy who bought my last roo a year ago and just bought a bunch of the brooder babies is "thinking about him" -- I gave him the chance to call dibs, if he passes I'll be listing him on the FB groups and reckon he'll be gone pretty quick.

Hi Mare!

You weren't showing on the list. I'm signing off, but wanted to say howdy!

Are you more relieved or sad to have found homes for your birds? Both, I bet.

Hey everyone. Sorry I've been gone for a few days. In between laying down from back problems I've been putting up fence, working on the coop, and still haven't started my garden.I hope to be back soon. Miss all of y'all. In between all the work I having to lay down and just don't feel like doing anything else due to pain.

Sorry to hear you're down in the back, Red, put some heat on it and prop the laptop up so you can pass the time here ;-)

Hi, Wishing!
You're right, it's a little bit of both - I'm only really attached to a few of them so it isn't too sad about parting with this flock, the sadness comes in when I stop and think about how long it might be before I am able to have any chickens again............

I've been missing you!!!

I'm back. Meeting was fine. Couldn't ask for a sweeter lady. She's pretty young but we have SO much in common. Our DDs are in the same class at school, and the DSs will both start pre-k next year. Her DS came to the meeting and both boys had a great time. :love Then I took her over to the coop and showed her the goats, and let her boy open the pop door and give scratch to the flock. Then I showed them the guineas, gave them some chicks to hold, and the boy picked up a guibea feather for his cowboy hat.

I'm super glad I didn't skip. I e been running low on "mom" time. The only close-by friend I have with kids moved back to Texas recently. I didn't realize how much I've missed the commiseration. I told her next year we can meet for coffee on weekday mornings. :D

The second egg hatched! Not sure when, and it's already dry and running around. At midnight it wasn't pipped, and at 10 am it had hatched. I'm going to give them to Lagertha tonight.

Off to fill waterers. It's 80 degrees right now! :ep

Sounds like this was a meeting that you were meant to have -- so glad you had a good morning!

I'm finally sitting down to lunch. The fence is the next project on the list, and they had the placement wrong. I said so, and the man looked straight in my face and said "nope. Nope, you're wrong." And grinned while he said it. :rant Well of course I had to check with DH, which felt like tattling. But I wasn't wrong! I was right! And it's MY fence!

I overheard the man tell his wife that they didn't have enough material. I told DH (tattled again) and he said they asked for 110 feet, and he got 150. SO now he's coming over to get everything settled.

I feel like a whiny baby. This is the time of year where our relationship shifts from DH/DW to co-directors who also live together. It's straining. I'm ready for my vacation.

You're not tattling, you are holding them accountable - you shouldn't have to "tattle" and wouldn't if the jerk would listen to you when you speak up, that is what irks me the most.......the whole, "little woman" attitude some take when you try to say something......
