Sticking when zipping would say humidity too low and the snot you have described sounds like normal hatch gunk. This one of mine that just hatched had it, it comes away naturally. I will try and get a pic so you can compare.

That's right Linda, part of the umbilical and general gunk that comes along with hatch.
