Most costly blunder in the torture chamber, love veggie soup, DH loves stew. I spent untolds amount of money on meat for stew and soup. All fresh veggies from the stands and countless hrs. pealing potatoes and onions, tomatoes, corn, carrots, everything was from a garden local. The soup was soo good and the stew turned out good too. 24 quarts of each ! I processed them for a couple hrs. each batch . about 6 at a time I think. took a few days. Every single one of them spoiled. I didnt use a pressure cooker I boiled them in a regular pot. I only got a taste..

Lots of post to catch up with, finally made it thru.

@granny so very sorry for the loss of your sister in such a horrible way. Thankfully I believe in God so I know that SOB will eventually get his. Unfortunately at the time of your sisters death that never would have been enough for you to feel justice was done. Very glad that time & counseling helped you make it thru.

@Newfie - Your blueberry buckle looks divine. Plop a big scoop of vanilla icecream on top and I would be in heaven.

@Camping - we caught ourselves a baby possum after we lost 2 hens to what we thought was a fox. This week to our surprise, the hens started squacking the predator song late one evening. Ran out to see what was a matter. There was a huge stray Tom cat in the backyard by the grandkids swing set. Usually he takes off running when he sees me, but this time he was acting strange and wasn't moving. My daughter comes up behind me and ask what they are squacking about. I tell her a big cat as I glancing out towards the cat and beyond the cat by the woods. Here standing out by the woods was a cougar. I first mentally thought it was a bobcat, but after a better look it had a long tail. For the past few years there have been more sightings of cougar in our area. At first the DNR tried to say there wasn't any, but quiet a few people have captured a trail cam picture of them. My property butts up to a large track of land that has very dense forest & marshy areas. We definitely need to purchase a trail cam when we have the extra funds. Really makes me nervous to be back by the woods picking blackberries. Usually I'm worried about encountering a bear, but I never would of thought in a million years that I would encounter a cougar in my backyard.

@Granny - I think as long as the animal don't look sick it would be fine for the chickens to eat it. If they were living wild they would.

Thank you hun.

they throw them things in while they are still alive. They scream too.

Keep adding the potting soil. Get the grands to rake grass. Leaves other than walnut or oak. You have lots of chicken manure. Newspaper or csrdboard mixed in & let it sit for a few months to break down. It will fill up & most plants will do fine at 6". I put thick layers of newspapers on top when I plant. No weeds & saves on watering.
