i dont think its cocci, a lot of good info though. its too random, some are in brooders and have not had contact with soil or other chicks and some have lived in the coop for a while. it actually sounds more of a poison type thing to me. the feed maybe? no bloody poo, everything seems normal then bam, their gone. the weather is nuts here, warm/cold. was thinking of downsizing but not like this

Sorry for all your losses Granny. Could it be something environmental, such as some type of mold? My daughter lost 4 of her pet rats within 2 days of each other and pretty sure it was something in the aspen shavings. She got rid of the shavings and got a different brand and everything was fine from there on. How is your husband doing now?

3 more gone today, i have some symptoms now. in the big coop is my 3 month adolescents, i added them to my existing flock and they are the only ones out there dying. they are skin and bones, paralyzed i guess or too weak to stand, diarrhea , then death comes slowly. they act cold, ie: ruffled feathers. i have been culling them until today one did seem a bit stronger then the rest so i put it in a brooder with heat and wet feed. it is eating and seems a bit stronger. i have food and water in a lot of places in the coop. at least 5 stations of each. in my brooders i have one month olds with ruffled feathers, eyes closed or red looking (sick eyes) heavy breathing and lethargic. normal poops and feeding. the only common thing i have found is water, they will all seem to get a bit excited when they see or hear it. first thing that came to mind was my new hose but i also bring water from the house and i let the hose run for a bit before i fill the water up. i have some of the one month olds on sulfa something for 4 days now, no improvement.

he is doing about the same i guess. pulse still too high and his legs look like sausages. but his breathing seems to be a bit better. he is down to 4 liters of oxygen and holding steady at 94 %. i do hope he can be weened off of that. thank you for asking
