Campingshaws, you roo is very handsome. It's sad that our birds have to suffer in order for us to learn...

Granny, didn't you get rid of all your sick ones? Excited for egg news.

Since I can't have anymore, I will enjoy everyone else's.

Got to get busy, Light Brahmas both have bumblefoot again. They are the only ones who have ever had a problem with it.

yes, i got rid of them. It didnt matter. these got the same thing. I have just decided i am going to use the preventative from now on. I had some in my other coop that had never shown signs of any illness . I must of passed it to them.

that is exactly where my coops illness came from. a swap. oh such preety birds. I want this one and this one and let me bring them home and hurry them into the coop so i can admire all those colors. HA ! bye bye birdys

they take a chance. then they keep the show bird to itself for a month to make sure it didnt pick anything up.

I was worried about that, but I don't think it came home with her. I think it was from the new sussex (roo and hens) because they were the first sick. Or maybe it was totally random.
If you read a little about the respiratory diseases, it says what the incubation period is for most of them like coryza or MG. MG is about 6-10 days, while coryza is 1-3 days. That is one way to figure it out where they get it. For instance if you bring home a carrier with no symptoms, but then 2 days later your other birds start getting sick, it probably came from the new bird. You can bring home a perfectly healthy bird from a swap that happened to be near a sick bird, and then they can show up with symptoms a few days later. I have become so paranoid about bringing home an illness that I will only get chicks from a hatchery. Even with hatching someones else's eggs you take a chance on getting MG and a couple of other diseases which can pass through eggs.
