So happy to hear that your daughter is on the mend! Yes, it does take a while for the intestines to wake up after major surgery like that.

I was sitting at the window watching my girls this afternoon and as quick as a snap a HUGE eagle tried to grab one of my girls. Right outside my window! Not six feet away from me. He must have been either very hungry or inexperienced as there is no place in my yard to "get up" with a chicken. Besides Dolly weighs about 6 lbs. Luckily, the only damage is a patch of her newly grown feathers is gone. That's the first time I've ever witnessed such an attack.

I would hVe ran out the door swinging something! So glad she's ok.

still dont have my hopes up but i see a little black beak this morning. there is some blood around the pip and it again is at the side of the small end. we got our first heavy snow and the electric has flashed 3 times already. I have not heard one cheep from this baby. 4 1/2 inches of snow already. If we lose electric I have 17 babies, 2 seramas out side and 2 babies in the house. not counting the bators. I didnt buy any fire wood this yr. because of my back.

Losing power again, granny? That's terrible! Remember when I mentioned getting some hand warmers last year? Maybe it's not too late to stock up. It could help with your chicks.

Sorry for not posting on the other thread, btw. My laptop finally died, and I went out and got a new one yesterday. I got a new tarp put up over the coop, so hopefully I don't lose anymore OEG's.

Cheyen !! good to hear from you. yes i remember, now. lol I am afraid we are not going anywhere. looks like 5 inches or so out there now. no fire wood of course. If it comes down to it i will grab my hatchet and go chop a tree ! hope your chickens stay warm.

The chickens are going to fine over here. It'll be in the 30's for a few days, but that's not too cold for a chicken. Just the little ones.

its supposed to be 11 here. we are all gonna freeze ! even with the heat lamp i worry about the seramas . what if it blows in the middle of the night?

Had our first chilly night, it was about 41, I think, lol. Just teasing... hope all of you in the cold part of the country are okay.
